i was trying to host games on open battle.net, and i read that if you open port 4000 that you can, and i tried this and it worked perfectly, but then I read somewhere that this opens up your computer to hackers, and that people can just get right into your computer if you have this port open, so I reversed my port forwarding I had done. Is this true, and if so, is there any way I can host games and have my computer safe?
any1?
who has info?
i just make this sig recently to teach people not to play with fire.

Just have a good FIREWALL, like zonealarm, or even windows standard firewall, and you will be fine. Opening a port can be a bad thing, but a computer has anywhere from 65000-100000 ports, and the likelyhood that someone will scan that port and find it being open is highly doubtful.

the only thing is, port 4000 is a COMMON port on d2, and seems likely to be scanned

any open port is a hackable port. Just not many people bother to try it due to the fact 97% of most people are smart enough to have a firewall that will show if someone is entering. Most common ports for Diablo 2 (including or excluding expansion) are 4000, 6112-6119. For private servers, its usually 8000.
