Rust Storm?

i was on the d2 chat and some people who were discussing the dupe being patched, and one person said that there will be a rust storm. i asked what it was and they said a rust storm is where d2 or what ever runs d2 goes through every character and deletes all duped items.
is this true or is it a load of bull.

Probably load of bull... itll take blizzard forever to delete the duped items.

not completely true, a ruststorm is more like how items disappear if you dont perm, if your character is offline those items aren't going anywhere

I fail to see the point behind these threads. The answer is simpler than simple. If Blizzard announces a ruststorm, there will be one. If they don't, there won't be one. Case closed.

Ok, there have been a ton of threads on rustorms. There's the storm that always goes on, or passive rs. And the active which has only happened once and removes all dupes it can find. For the later they shutdown all the servers to cross scan every char. Will it happen? Doubtful since they have only done it once, from 1.09 to 1.10 i think, and they realize how many people would stop playing after the loss of there items. But, ultimately we would have to wait for blizz to announce this or wait for them to reset latter.

They didn't do a rust storm last latter. I'm not really sure if they would take the time to do that, d2 is basically dead to them.
