Sorry if this has been gone over, but I didn't see anything in my searches that helped. I have all my own software so if I ever need to I can reinstall everything, all my personal files are backed up to cd / dvd, but I have a friend here at work who has a lot of customized software that he doesn't know how to backup. He is a musician and does his own mixing and recording and this is the customized stuff. He paid someone to do this work, but never got any disks or anything (sounded shady to me). Is there a good program to use that will back absolutely everything up? It would need to copy his applications as well as whatever changes were make in the operating system files.
Thanks,
Phal

umm i think that there are alot of programs out there that do exactly what your friend wants. i was going to suggest a system restore point using the windows one.. but we all know how shitty that could be so no. your best bet would be googleing one, or buying one at fry's

Your friend can make a full image of the drive with Norton Ghost or a similar program that make a ghost image of the hard drive. There are others, Norton Ghost is my fav.
It basically makes an image *or full copy* of the hard drive, but also shrinks it in order to fit it onto a smaller media. It has options to split it into smaller sections I think for DVD burning or something, but your friend could just go buy a removable HD, as it can store this for him and then let him do backups of important files in the future.
You then use the same program to take that image and copy it onto a new (or reformatted\wiped) hard drive.

Just google the program to back up your programs. If you have some spare change to throw away i would get the cheapest external hardrive out there and store my files on that and put it somewhere i won't lose it. Good Luck
