Either that or he didn't have enough oppertunity as a minority, or his parents didn't kiss him before bed.

@Him-
I really don't think this should be considered a record...It's like giving them something to aim for. This may be the largest school shooting but is still not the largest act of school violence.

@Dan-
I did not find the videos off youtube and I do not use that site often.
There are injustices in the world and whether innocent people die in this country or another they are still innocent people. If you were to come to my school and blast me I wouldn't care. Rather be murdered than be there anyways. Hopefully the families of your friends are ok but I hardly feel I can be compared to a murderer or called for the reason of this countries downfall.

@Aemaeth & Pamela-
Sorry for the decline of this thread. I will not attempt to justify my words any further so that the thread will not be closed.

Although it may be in bad taste. I did get a little of a laugh when I noticed "Most Friendly. Rep for you!" Seeing as I am being thought of as some kind of evil and being flamed extensively.

all i can say is that this is nothing compared to the Beslam School siege in Russia. over 330 people were killed, and of that number, 186 were children.

whenever i see something like this, one question comes to mind: what the ****? and the reason is that i wonder what drove that mentality in the shooter's head to just get a gun and start killing people? gun culture? society? i don't know but those don't sound like the actions of someone who is mentally stable? sympathy to the victim's families because i can't see why someone would do this. i know life pisses on you sometimes but still, no need to go massacre a bunch of people just beacause life is treating you like shit, everyone has it happen one time or another but it's scary how much gun crime you see in the news now. it's just so depressing when you hear on the news "another high school massacre happened..." or "someone was stabbed today..." just because those people didn't stop to think what their actions would mean in the long run.

rant over.

It is a natural progression of a thread to stray,just do not bring War into news about a school shooting in America...it has no place in this thread.
What should be discussed is the ramafications of this vile act on school policy changes...and we all KNOW the politicians will be all over this trying to *Fix it*
You can not *fix* a deranged kid.......whatever the hell his problem was,he killed people and then himself.

We can not bring them back,and we can not ask the killer*Sup with YOU dude?*

This is a tragic event,but I do not see a *fix* happening.

Well at least the shooter wasn't a white guy with long hair. All heavy metal and punk rock need is more blame for stupid shit like this.

This will be blamed on something though, video games most likely. Of course he will be "bullied" and "harassed." I don't know if any of you have seen Arlington Road but is just like Jeff Bridges tells his class in it... America just needs one person to blame and to know that one person isn't out there anymore to feel safe again.

Oh Pam how I hope you are right. Put the blame on someone; better than blaming those 'awful, mean, scary guns.' I will bet just about anything that those students wished for anything to fight back with. One or two armed people there could have significantly changed those events. One of the schools I went to didn't have a campus POLICE, they had campus SECURITY. Security couldn't carry guns on school grounds. By creating all these 'gun-free school zones' this country has created an area that will be defenseless against any person or group that wants to break the law and use deadly force against the people that these laws are supposed to protect!

There is a good sized ROTC at VT I thought, I wonder how many of them knew what was going on. Kind of difficult to do much against and armed suicidal person though.

My prayers go out to all the victims.

If you allow guns on campus that does not automatically mean that these things would be avoided, halted or shortened. Even if some people are carrying guns that does not mean that someone one or near of one of those classes would have been holding. Plus the changes of someone using it in a domestic dispute would increase. And most often these tragedies seem happen in high schools.

This is just another notch agaisnt the Nra and responsible gun owners. Its a shame that this whole situation will soon take a detour as the media will focus on those who support gun control.

Are you implying that there would be more high school shootings if people were allowed to carry guns all the time? First of all you would have to be 21 to even register the gun, But before you can even conceal it you would have to obtain a permit. As always high school shootings are nothing more than the parents fault.

Wasn't implying that at all. I thought it was common knowledge. And you can by a rifle at 18, you need to be 21 for a handgun. It really is not the parents fault for high school shootings. There is no one fault you can blame shootings on.

Generally everyone try to back up there own cause with a shooting. Some will say it was video games, the media(music/movies), strict laws on guns or not strict enough laws on guns. Most those people have there own private agenda and just use the shotting to back up there claims.

^^ the new system is working nicely.

anyhow, if hand guns were allowed onto high school properties... then oh god. there would be shootings every single day.

in the end, it really comes down to the individual's fault.

mathu- the Beslam massacre happened on September 1, 2004

actually no, because when you allow guns on campus, they just dont let anybody carry a gun. an open firearm campus allows LICENSED persons to carry a concealed weapon. this means the people that will have the guns are the people you want to have the guns. not just anyone can get a license. so no there wouldnt be an increase in any "domestic disputes" because the people that would use a weapon against someone illegally wouldnt give a sh1t if it was legal or not. so WHY IN THE WORLD would you not allow licensed peoples carry a gun in attempt to prevent/shorten any illegal firearm use.

there was an incident salt lake city, near where i live a few months ago. a lone shooter in a trench coat just started unloading a 12 gauge shotgun on people in the middle of a mall (trolley square), his only goal being to kill as many as he can. if it werent for an off duty cop carrying his weapon that isolated and distracted the shooter, the kill count would have been way higher then it was.

these are the kind of people that would be able to carry a weapon. on a gun free campus, not even an off duty police officer would be able to carry his gun. now tell me how much sense that would make?

if you argue it that way, of course it makes sense for an officer to carry a gun. but gun free is gun free, meaning no guns. this generally isnt true however, i have seen cops carry guns in a "gun free environment".
but look at france, where the cops cant even carry guns. the crime rate and stuff are lower than us.
