Why does everyone act like I have no clue that a license is needed to carry a concealed fire arm? The incident in the mall was stopped by a police officer, off duty or not he is still more qualified than a civilian. How often do off duty cops hang around universities? And if an argument got out of hand, to physical or near physical, how can you be certain someone would not pull their weapon? Maybe more law enforcement is needed, either way these incidents will still occur.

i sense a close thread coming...
but yes, you do need a license to carry a concealed hand gun. either way, thats not going to stop someone who really wants to kill another person from carrying a gun

The Mob Wrote:but look at france, where the cops cant even carry guns. the crime rate and stuff are lower than us.
ya your right every firearm owner in the states should turn in their firearms. this should solve all the problems.
Except wait
Only law abiding citizens will turn in their guns. Do you honestly think that this would solve a damn thing? No
Why you ask, because this would leave us even more in harms way. Its getting to the point where you almost need to carry a concealed firearm just to survive. its seriously ****ing rediculous.
Where the hell is everyones morals in this country. I have access to just about any firearm i want. You dont see me carrying them around. Why, because In illinois your not allowed to have a concealed weapon. thats enough reason for me not to carry one . Ill have to resort to throwing elbows and rocks next time someome attempts to mug me.

Uhhh...if you read The Mob's quote he never said that gun should be abolished in America. He just stated that France is better off w/o guns then we are w/ them. In no way will guns be abolished in America but that doesn't mean we should be allowed to carry them. And I believe this is starting to get way of topic. Could this be moved into spam area?

skidude Wrote:22 dead in Va. Tech shooting rampage
Gunman shot people in a dorm, second building; suspect among dead
BLACKSBURG, Va. - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people in the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history. The gunman also was killed.
“Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions,” said Virginia Tech president Charles Steger. “The university is shocked and indeed horrified.”
The university reported shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and continuing about two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building.
Some but not all the dead were students. One student was killed in a dorm and the others were killed in the classroom, said Virginia Tech Police Chief W.R. Flinchum.
The name of the gunman was not released. It was not known if he was a student.
NBC's Pete Williams said two law enforcement officials told him the gunman killed himself. They also said the gunman used two 9-mm handguns during the rampage, Williams reported. He said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was trying to track the weapons.
Up until Monday, the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history took place in 1966 at the University of Texas, where Charles Whitman climbed to the 28th-floor observation deck of a clock tower and opened fire. He killed 16 people before he was gunned down by police. In the Columbine High bloodbath near Littleton, Colo., in 1999, two teenagers killed 12 fellow students and a teacher before taking their own lives.
After Monday’s shootings at Virginia Tech, all entrances to the campus were closed.
The university set up a meeting place for families to reunite with their children at the Inn at Virginia Tech. It also made counselors available and planned a convocation for Tuesday at the Cassell Coliseum basketball arena. After the shootings, students were told to stay inside away from the windows.
“There’s just a lot of commotion. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on,” said Jason Anthony Smith, 19, who lives in the dorm where shooting took place.
Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, said the shooting happened on the 4th floor of West Ambler Johnston dormitory, one floor above her room. Kanode’s resident assistant knocked on her door about 8 a.m. to notify students to stay put.
“They had us under lockdown,” Kanode said. “They temporarily lifted the lockdown, the gunman shot again.”
“We’re all locked in our dorms surfing the Internet trying to figure out what’s going on,” Kanode said.
Topic at hand!

i know that in the constitution we are guaranteed the right to bare arms. there fore it is impossible to ban fire arms out right.
Tap your right, if everyone had morals, there wouldn't be any violence. but you cant just fight fire with fire

I do know someone at V Tech, but fortunately she is ok and from what I know was not involved in any way in the same area as the shooting.
As for what happened, yeh it's pretty scary stuff. In case there are people here that just don't read the news and it wasn't mentioned earlier, the shooter was identified as a South Korean senior English (lit) major at the school. My roommate and I had kinda been keeping up on the story a bit online, and watched Primetime on ABC (they seem to be handing a good chunk of the story in various programs) last night.
Yeh, I really don't know what to say about it, not do I really have much to say about the shootings. I don't believe it is something that could have been prevented - humans are complex individuals and at times (such as this) we can act irrationally and allow our instinctual needs to overcome our sense of rationality. In this case, Cho-Seung's output on life and his belief that "You caused me to do it" towards the other people on campus resulted in the deaths of 32 other students and faculty.
My prayers go out to V Tech and anybody effected by this horrible tragedy.

Jesus Jedi...do you have a gun? (No worries, no gun ~jedi)
On topic...it was a tragedy for the death toll and also for the death of the shooter.Whatever his problem was...you can not always help people(trust me on this)
Some find their own solutions, and unfortunately include others in that.

Too bad he included others in it. Of all the stuff I have seen and heard I still don't really understand what set him off. Fight with the girlfriend = kill 2. Ok, I sort of understand.... anger, frustration, out of control rage. But after that? What was the point, he did everything to put himself in the limelight then kills himself; kind of stupid isn't? Society forced him to do this so now we 'have blood on our hands' is where I get lost. I almost feel bad for the guy he was inteligent but went nuts because he couldn't cope with what just about everybody else has to cope with. An English major that couldn't communicate his frustrations. The only thing that might have been more ironic is if he was a communications major.
More prayers for VT victims and all the families, Cho's included.

36 California schools under lockdown
Suspect threatened to ‘make Virginia Tech look mild,’ sheriff’s office says
YUBA CITY, Calif. - Authorities put all 36 schools in 12 Northern California school districts under lockdown Thursday as police searched for a man who claimed he was planning an armed attack that would “make Virginia Tech look mild.”Sutter County Undersheriff J. Paul Parker told MSNBC-TV that the man, identified as Jeffrey Thomas Carney, 28, telephoned his pastor and family members Wednesday night to say he had an automatic weapon, improvised explosive devices and poison.
Sheriff’s officials said Carney made no specific threat to any particular place. But because of the reference to the massacre of 32 students and professors Monday at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, principals at all 36 of the schools in the county’s 12 school districts shut down their campuses and locked students in for safety, Assistant Superintendent Linda Protine said.
now more shit is starting up

They are tired of living their life in whatever condition it is in and want to leave their mark on the world. If someone brags about what they plan to do they are probably just looking for the attention.
I read about a fourteen year old who was arrest earlier in the week for planning to kill two teachers on the anniversary of columbine, April 20th.
As for people backing their own horse in the wake of a tragedy-

that's what happens when guns are legal in your country. Unfortunately you also have no way to get rid of them now that they are part of American culture.

it's not hard really. steal your parent's one, hide it under all your books, run into a class and let rip.
One thing eludes me though. Why didn't 33 students try to apprehend the shooter while he was say reloading? If they did this then not all 33 would've died. Plus we end up with a criminal to trial
We all know that no pistol can hold 33 bullets. The best way to prevent this sort of problem would be to educate people on how to deal with people with guns and an intent to kill.
This is very much like Japan where earthquakes occur frequently. The students are drilled to know what to happen during earthquakes. Apply this for armed gunmen and although unfortunately some people would die. The death count would not be as high.

Tru that...Guns have become a cancer to our society and we will never be able to get rid of them, like when alcohol was made illegal. Tried to remove it but it never left.
As for apprehending the suspect. That probably never came to mind. I would guess he reloaded while moving to the next class. Our minds are basic...Fight or flight. Rushing(fight) someone with a gun would be suicide in itself so most people would just try to protect themselves(flight).
