Iron Maiden vs Thorns ?

hi all,

there is a puzzle which i cant figure out. from the stats on both skills above at level 20, thorns seem to return about 10 times the damage whereas Iron Maiden returns only about 6 times.

but whenever i encounter unique bosses with the thorns aura, my melee paladin can cut through them and survive with sufficient life leech. but against those oblivion knights who cast iron maiden against me, one blow from my own sword is enough to kill me.

why is this so? and how is this achieved? doesnt thorns and iron maiden work the same way?

a second question is that whenever my hireling is cursed (usually by the amplify damage), my character gets it instantly too even if i am out of the range of the casters ... mmm ... is this normal?

Cos ur dmg is too high....dun care bout thorns...your dmg is too high...

yeah, you are partially right. my damage is definitely more than what my own hit points can endure. but the question that remains unanswered is why iron maiden seems to do what thorns failed to do, when thorns seem to be more powerful and is supposed to work the same way as iron maiden.

is the iron maiden ignore blocking?
when you dmg the monster you dmg yourself
but thorn just reflect dmg and can be blocked

i just guess ...

yea....your def matters with thorns...while IM dosent...i think...

thanks for the replies so far, i am also curious as to the truth behind these 2 apparently similar skills. for your info, my paly has a 75% block, with moderate defence. so i think thorns might be 'blockable', though there is no way to verify that. as for IM, it's a one touch suicide ... so there is nothing to prove or disprove ...
