Linux Question
#1
What's the best version out and why? Im tired fo using XP and i don't really want to go to Vista and have my system slow down. I liked the link to the Ubuntu with Beryl and how the interface ran. But other than looks I don't know a damn thing about Linux. So please help me out here.....

Try out Debian for a start. Other than that BSD or Slackware

I hope your not talking about a university degree. If you can install Ubuntu without any help, you should be fine with using it, and from your current knowledge you are demonstrating on Linux, I doubt you will need to go any further then Ubuntu. It's really a good OS, I'd reccomend it.

Ya the BA comment was sarcasim for Bachelor's Associate Degree. aka 4 year degree.. No im just probin so i can get it, try it out and not have much buyers remorse about having had bought something different. Basically im building a new PC and want somethin new. Im soo not impressed about Vista and I've always been pretty much Anti-MS.

My other question is I hear Linux makes you pay for add-on or upgrades? Or pay for something past the cost of the program. Not sure if I read the article corrrectly. It was a bunch of technological babble.

Lastly Im sure someone who reads this will ask "why not just stay with XP" Well XP64 blows, and even if Ubuntu doesn't utilize DX10 im not sure what games i would even play from it anyhow. Im not into Crysis or Lost Planet which from what I read has a pathetic Story line and is more like Gears of War. The Ubuntu video I saw on someone's link looked very eye appealing and as the story goes Linux runs more stable than Windows, which might be nice for a change.

linux is pretty good. I use it often myself when i'm doing different things. But youd probably want to have windows on it too. If you have a big harddrive, partition like 15 gigs for linux incase you get into it. I use a 320gb sata2 10500rpm drive and gave 2 of my linux's 80 gigs each. I run slackware 11.0 and ubuntuu. downside to ubuntuu is it cant use most windows games. There are plugins out to fix that but they are a pain to find so far. slackware on the other hand can run windows and non windows game software. I havent tested it for mac software yet but i probably will in the future. linux pretty much runs like windows...just it isnt as bad of a resource hog. As for a new windows. I had the same issue. i ditched vista for longhorn. was the best choice i've ever had.
