Lagging Diablo2?
#1
Well heres the story, and the info, and the question, feel free to ask more about it after you read.

Ok, about a month ago I got a new laptop that was previously used by my sister until she messed up the battery (not the problem), and well once I had it I was happy with it. Couple days later I figured I missed playing diablo2 (I got banned from runescape for stealing people's accounts *rolls Eyes*), so I bought it, and I started playing, for another 2 weeks it was fine, and then a problem sets in. Everytime I restart my computer I have 5-20minutes until diablo2 starts lagging severly. Well after about 2 weeks of this I get fed up, and we call southwesternBell, they said everything's fine, and they gave us a website that we could use to check the connection, so for 2 more days we do that everytime it lags, we found out it wasn't the interenet because that wasn't lagging for anybody else, and I am right next to the wireless connection. I have tried using a local connection too, still didn't work. Well I have swapped computers and its not as laggy, but this is the family's computer so it's always used for stuff.

Problem: Game Lags after 5-20 minutes. How do I Fix this?
Solutions came up: Reinstalling (didn't do anything), memory Whipe (I have data that I need to keep on there).

Please shed some light on this situation!

If its a brand-new laptop then it should run D2 just fine, your sis probably loaded it with spyware and viruses.

Go to your task manager, (if your running windows XP/2000 just hit Alt+Ctrl+Delete, I don't know about Vista though) and check how many processes are running, I always try to keep mine in the 20s. But if you have say 50-60 going, then you have too much stuff running in the background at once. Usually if you have alot of processes running, it means that you have spyware problems. (not always though, things like Norton take up space too)

We wiped the memory, and the problem still consists, there is no spyware, or anything on it, it did have norton, now it doesn't.

I take it that means you Formated it, if you say memory you will just confuse people because hard drives and memory are 2 different things.

You gotta list some specs and what kind of internet you have, if you use wireless, and if you have both computers running the internet at the same time. Like both computers playing a game online could use all of your bandwidth up if you have a slower connection.

Sometimes a laptop doesn't download the version of Direct X need to run diablo 2. Go download the right version of direct X or at least try downloading it again. When you installed diablo 2 did you also use the little thing that they give you to check and see if your pc can run diablo right. If you were to do that it would prob tell you exactly what problem you have and then we can help you from there. If its not the direct X then can you tell me what OS you are running. If it is window vista i don't really know much about it all i know is D2 needs to be run in a different direct x then the newest one out. You can easily fix that by right clicking the icon and changing the settings to run this on.

His few month old laptop would come preloaded with dx9, and anyways d2 will run with dx 7.1 or 7.0 or 7.2.... well you get the idea

not sure...but it could be an animation from an icon running in the background...My sister plays but the animation from her antivirus icon slows her game so she had to disable it....other things it could be is a video settings. try doing a video test and set it to 2d. 3d gets slow after certain times.

i also think it is your video card. in the game, type /fps and tell us what frame rate you get initially. when it starts to lag, tell us what happens.

where do you mostly play D2 at like on your bed or something like that, my sister had a problem with hers that is she used it while on her bed it would over heat from not getting enough airflow to cool down the processor and hard drive
