DSL w/o Phone Jack in room
#21
Yeah and probably still come out cheaper than paying someone to wire that length. Also you can move your computer wherever you want without the limitations of a wire.

Its really not that bad. Unless your going to put it more than 20+ yards.

Ty for the tips. As I might switch to DSL, I might switch to wireless but the hassle to buy a adapter doesn't benefit for me. As if I switch to dsl, I might be saving about $15 per month for speeds a little lower but I am a time consumer so it's still high speed internet. Problem is since I don't have a phone jack in the room for the PC, setting it up to use wireless might take some time to use it. As wireless is a little slower caused by interference, I might make the decision in the near future.

Thank you all. I will have to compare the benefits.

You don't have to have the computer near the phone jack with a router. Thats the beauty of it. You can set up your modem and router in a completely different room.

The router I have right now is not connected to a computer. It is only connected to a modem downstairs, and its wasn't hard to setup, and all the internet I get is from that router. Sbc Dsl is a very decent Dsl for relatively cheap price. Starting from around $14. Upgradeable too. I have the $24 one with 2500 kbs.

Sorry for reviving, but I have another question.

As I last checked, I am willing to make a switch from Comcast to Qwest DSL because I heard reports about Comcast up to no good (BitTorrent + limiting bandwidth.

I researched the speeds. Comcast has 6.0 for $45 and Qwest has 1.5 Mps for $30.

Is it worth to downgrade? But Qwest doesn't cheat customers on what there getting :-)

PS on the Phone Jack: I might try the wireless thing but worried about people around my area stealing my connection Tongue

Its all a matter of personal preference. Cable is good but bandwidth is limited by your neighbors use. And you can put a password on your router so others cannot connect to it.
