DSL w/o Phone Jack in room

Hey, I am currently looking at saving some $ for my internet. Right now, I'm paying about $45 for my cable internet and thinking about switching to dsl just because I have found some great plans that offer the same performance and is cheaper.

The question is that my computer and I would like to keep it there. It has no phone jack. Is there any possible way or device to put a phone jack in the room?

Get a wireless device, and plug the dsl into a phone jack somewhere else around the house, the wireless device may cost at most 40-30 bucks, I got one for 15 once.

You can get an ativa at office depot for 20 bucks and the adapter for 15. Works good. I had one until I found a link sys for 3 bucks at a garage sale. Cant beat wireless N for 3 bucks.

Linksys is a very popular brand for routers (The wireless internet sending device) and adapters (The receiver connected on your computer). I've been using it for about two and a half years.

Thx. Well I do already have a router, my computer is a PC and I would like to keep it wired. I also heard the wireless signal of a router isn't as fast compared to a wired modem.

Ty for the suggestions but I dunno if I would be happy going wireless.

Actually the wireless I'm getting is not much different or slower than if we plugged it in directly. But you do have to figure out how to port forward for some games, because routers is a physical firewall, sometimes you must allow some ports for games to run smoothly. Not very difficult at all. I am happy going wireless at least. But it is your decision. I don't think there is a better way for you to get to internet besides via router in your situation.

Yeah most cheap routers are 54mbps. Even the fastest residential internet connections usually dont break 5mbps.

Drill holes in the walls and thread the wires through to your computer from your modem, make sure to get the most distance from DSL Modem - Router - PC.

drill holes in you wall and fish the cables across.
or you can get an electrician to do that, but that will cost alot of money
wired will always be better and faster then wireless.

or you can really do it the cheap way.. buy about 100ft of cat5. laugh:
and then tape it to the ceiling. LOL

you only need cabling if you are going to create a home network where you are going to transfer files among computers. The very very very slight difference you will notice in speed, if you even notice, isn't even remotely worth all that trouble. I have 2 wireless comps in my house and 1 wired. You wouldn't be able to tell which one your sitting at unless I told you.

Drill holes? Lol. You guys aren't serious right? I saw my house being built from scratch around 2 years ago. The walls are way too cluttered up with supporting wood and insulation for you to fish anything across. Even if possible it won't be cheap to hire an electrician to do it. Just buy a $50 dollar router. With a $25 adapter. Linksys.

buy a long telephone wire or u can buy a connector to splice 2 telephone wires together and then run ur wire to your modem. its not too hard

Its cat5 cable. And to fish it through the walls you run a stiff wire through the holes, tie the cable to it and pull it through. The best way is to drop a stiff piece of bailing wire from the attic, tie the wire, pull it into the attic and drop it into the room your computer would be in. But why do that when the speed difference isn't even noticeable.

Another benefit of a router is that if you have, or ever get, a laptop you can connect anywhere in your house.

Like they all said, Wireless at a min is 54mbps, cable internet reaches a peak of around 8-12mbps. Moral of the story, there is no difference vs wired and wireless for internet using. Sharing files between computers is the only reason you would want wired, and anyways, you can get the new Wireless-N Gigabit adapters, and it will be plenty fast.
