MF Cold Sorc
#1
I've recently started playing d2 with my friends and I have been looking through tons of Sorc char guides. I've heard that MF Cold sorc are the best for MFing. Although Im still confused on the skill Point distribution as some guides include it or just leave it out and expect that you know what to put where. Please could you give me some skill point distribution guides for a MF sorc, orb or blizzard and reasons why to choose either. I just cant choose between the two and would really love some input. Thanks.

Well, if you were set on a cold sorc, Blizzard would probably be the best choice. Skill distribution are as follows:

20 Blizzard
20 Icebolt
20 Iceblast
20 Glacial Spike
1 Teleport
1 Warmth
1 Static Field
1 Energy shield [optional]
1 Frozen armor/Chilling Armor/Shiver Armor [optional]
Remaining points go into Cold Mastery.

Make sure you get Teleport, Static, and Warmth before you try to max all of your Blizzard synergies.

Do you reccomend blizzard over orb?

I do recommend it. I've played both of those builds and Blizzard has superior damage and can hit multiple times, if your mercenary is tanking Mephisto or you do the mote trick he is going down in seconds. Not to mention they can be real good MFers with the cheapest of gear.

Thanks for the orb build, i think i'm going to use that. It seems that blizzard is for worst gear, orb is in the middle, and light is for best gear. I will probably be around mid when my friend gives me gear. But one quick question, why 20 telekineses?

All of the builds work great with the best equipment, Blizzard just happens to be useful all around. As for your telekineses question..

Arreat Summi Wrote:Each point in Telekinesis makes Energy Shield's damage absorption more effective. By default, for each point of damage absorbed by Energy Shield, 2 mana points are deducted - a 200% ratio. Each hard skill point in Telekinesis makes Energy Shield 6.25% more effective. For example, with 8 points in Telekinesis, 1.5 mana points are deducted for each point of damage absorbed - a 150% ratio. With 16 points in Telekinesis, one point of damage absorbed equals one point of mana loss - a 100% ratio.

Ok well blizz dmg is far superior to orb. Orbing meph and andy in hell sucks, Im missign a fathom wep but i do around 14-15k blizzard. same cold gear set up on orb sorc is about 900 dmg. as far as the gear comments he bascially meant cheap gear as in you dont need a COH, NW,Fathom and stuff that cost multiples hr's on up. you could up a viper magi, use a shako or peasant/lore, and dual spirits from the get go ( all easily atainable).

14k-15k without fathoms? that sounds kinda unreal if you ask me confused:

O really?? cause max blizz with GG gear is 17k or so. Torches n anni's do wonders nowadays. My point being if you stripped your skill gear for all mf gear would you rather be in the hunderes for dmg or thousands? Also thats with Bo. My Light sorc does 28-29k with 471mf with 24 slots open. with no light eschutas nor griff. If need be i guess ill start takin screen shots. Also I never understood the whole mf thing anyways. My Cs zon gets gg drops with no mf. and my lite sorc gets ok drops per 100 runs on mmbot.

Not really, my blizz sorc is complete with GG and she doesn't hit 17k, although i prefer spirit over a 20/20 due to lack of FCR, so she could i so pose.
But heres the difference between the damage where using a fathom, it's tremendous.

and without using the next best thing:

Theres seriously no debate. Blizzard sorc can kill monsters with virtually no gear. While orb needs quite alot before it can do good damage. If your starting fresh, be Blizzard.

Wow well since i do 14k with an occy i would think using a fathom would give 16kish and i need another gc. Now is that b4 or after a BC? Im sure its another 1k dmg just on that alone

I had a blizz sorce that did 14k blizz damage, killed meph pretty quick. Although I've found orb CAN be more effective, you need to outfit your character for damage, it costs more to outfit the character and you'll have less MF. So with mf gear your much better off using blizzard. With crappy cheap gear and no concentration on damage you can have a 4-5k blizzard and still pwn meph.

Making a blizz sorce is very very easy, you don't really even need a guide to do it, just look at your skill tab synergy your blizzard, get enough strength to use your gear and the rest goes to Mana and Hit Points.
