MMO gamers beware: powerful new Trojan virus stealing passwords

MMO gamers beware, a new Trojan virus has been discovered, infecting your Windows system, and able to spread itself through any portable storage device. The virus, named Mocmex by Computer Associates, is able to steal passwords for online games.

The Trojan has been reported to be a powerful little bugger that roots itself into your system, bypassing firewalls, and avoiding detection from antivirus programs. So far, Mocmex is only known to attack Windows OSs.

The worm was hidden in digital photo frames that were being sold at Best Buy, Target, Sam's Club, and other retailers. It's not yet clear how it got inside the devices, but what's known is that the malware has been traced to a yet-unnamed group in China.

This isn't the first time a virus has spread through hardware though, if you recall the Seagate Maxtor incident. The Trojan is so powerful that some believe it's only a precursor to a stronger version of the virus that won't limit itself to stealing game passwords.

Mocmex has been reported to be hard - if not impossible - to flush out of your PC system. If you think your PC has been infected with the Mocmex worm, contact SANS at [email protected] and contact the retailer where you bought the device.

I think any game that has items that can be sold online for cash should beware. They may be selling this stuff they get from this for real currency, so yes I would be wary of this.

A few links on how to rid of this would be great, and it's not a bad idea to sticky this somewhere maybe.
