Extract cd-key from cdkey.mpq?
#1
Is there a tool that will extract the original key from the cd sleeve, given the cdkey.mpq file? Showcdkey shows the results of running onlyer's cdkey generation program...not what I'm looking for. I lost one of the two original cd's and I'm trying to figure out what the key was that I input to onlyer's tool.

The cd-key is not tied with the disk, so you will have no way of recovering you key from the cd.

The only way u can recover a cd-key is if u have it installed on a pc

You misunderstood the question. I am not trying to recover the key from the cd nor an installation. The key is embedded in the cdkey.mpq file that I generated using onlyer's cdkey generation program. I typed in the original key and it generate the cdkey.mpq file. Now I want to do the reverse operation, extract the original key from the cdkey.mpq file on my hard drive. Showcdkey reveals the resulting key inside the cdkey.mpq file, but not the key that is typed on the cd sleeve.

ok that's confusing.

ima try to reword.

1.) You misunderstood the question. I am not trying to recover the key from the cd nor an installation. What? Do you want the keys or not?

2.) The key is embedded in the cdkey.mpq file that I generated using onlyer's cdkey generation program. Good. Well this isnt the key you want

3.) I typed in the original key and it generate the cdkey.mpq file. Good

4.) Now I want to do the reverse operation, extract the original key from the cdkey.mpq file on my hard drive. HERE's where you messed up, i'll explain l8r.

5.) Showcdkey reveals the resulting key inside the cdkey.mpq file, but not the key that is typed on the cd sleeve. Well I can see your point. The CD-Key that came with your sleeve isn't recorded in the cdkey.mpq (because its impossible, its recorded someplace else). So therefore, if u lost the sleeve, well there's no way to can find it by going in the installation files.

Very confusing, I think you messed up pretty bad. The Onyler program is to use more then 1 Cd-Key (so like a pair of CD-Keys) so you can run 2 D2's on 1 computer. Well if you tried to do that and typed in a different key in the program, well it doesn't reveal the CD-Key you used when you first installed in D2 (the one in the sleeve) Well I don't quite understand, but tell me if i'm on the right track. I dunno if there is a program to find the original CD-Key you used but maybe some1 can help you out.
