A couple of D2 patching Questions

Hi to all. I've played the first Diablo a few yrs. ago, and just recently got BattleChest for my birthday. Enjoying D2 a lot but have a few questions. I installed as single player due to some problems on setting up. Since playing I've read a few posts at other sites that talk of patching. I'm at the end of A2 w/ a lv24 barb. Do I need upgrades to enjoy play more? If so, is going through B-net easier to do it? If so, will I loose my character because of reinstalling ? I'm not planning on playing online now but may in the future. And, I'll be putting on LOD expansion after completing D2. Hope this wasn't too much at once but I may have more ?'s to come. Thanks for any & all replies.

Connecting to battle.net will get your diablo 2 up to date and probably give you a better overall experience of the game but make single player harder, as far a I remember you can update your single player to full installation allowing you to connect to b.net for the patch.

Or alternatively get from blizzard site itself or any big download server.

Thanks for the reply FrogMan. I think I'll wait till I put in LOD for full install. What I really want is the "no CD" patch. I'll be patient. Thanks again.

If you're playing the orginal (version 1.01a I think), then your going to have more lock-ups and crashes than you want. It was orginally designed for a 486 system running windows 95, so if youre comp is running xp then it's best if you download the 1.10 patch from blizzard, both classic and LOD patches is available seperately. This will help D2 be more compatable with the system you have and also the 1.10 patch will allow you to pick up or create better gear. Even with the patch you can ad LOD later, if that's what you want.

If you connect to bnet it will update you to version 1.12 which is the no cd patch you ask about. In either case the barb you made will work.
