Im Christian, why arent you?
I've managed to summarise my thoughts on christianity and religion into this.

I believe that there is a vast majority of sadistic creeps who use religion and the ominous 'image' of god to scare and manipulate people into doing what they feel is morally correct.

It's my opinion, it's what I've always thought, and no-one is going to change that. Regardless of your arguments, retaliation, whatever shit that will arise in conflict with what I just said.

If I have to deal with hyper-religious idiots, you can deal with my stance on the matter. I don't feel that I have to be respectful towards people that don't respect my personal choice to not 'worship' [in my opinion], something I cannot see.

Ok? Ok Smile

What?? Mathalamus. Sometimes... You stun me. Where did you get that? Either point you made. If Skye was a Satanist, I doubt she'd care so much about how people treat their animals. Furthermore, being a Satanist is the opposite of being a Christian. "Christian" means "one who follows Christ," so you cannot be a Satanist AND a Christian. You'd have to pick a side. Also, as far as Satanism goes, I think it's the most immature thing someone can believe in. Kids listen to death metal when they're teenagers and get all rebellious and start saying and doing stupid things, and that's immature. On rare occassion when an adult won't give it up.. They form death metal bands so that they don't have to grow up.

And to Wazz: We can observe them. They give off a certain kind of radiation that makes them visible through certain kinds of telescopes. Not sure on the details, I just learned this on Nova once. And I mean them getting that big because, well, they do get that big. They're actually called Supermassive Black Holes. I'll see if wikipedia has anything on it...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermassive_black_hole

So, apparently, the bigger they get the weaker they are, since it says that their volume is inversly proportionate to their density, and their density is directly proportionate to their gravitational power.

Depending on the age of your book, though, Hawking had no idea about all this. It's relatively new physics.

I think you overestimate some Christians. I don't think that people that subscribe to a certain religion all believe a certain way (and I don't believe I even implied that I did), but the way religion functions definitely breeds idiotic thinking.

I can't remember who actually made the quote, but I read it in a Richard Dawkins book, but essentially he said that religion thrives in the holes of modern science. I don't know what kind of religious people you know, but that's essentially what religion has been doing from the start.

"Oh, the sun comes up in the morning? It must be a god that pulls it up on his flaming chariot" or "this woman is a virgin (scoff) and is pregnant! It must be God that infused her with a child!"

There are people that completely throw away the idea that dinosaurs existed, and believe that dinosaur bones are a hoax because they literally translate the Bible and shut their ears to everything else that contradicts it.

It's not the moderate religious people that I despise, it's those that deliberately turn away science and the closest thing we know to the "truth", and leave themselves in the dark that I can't stand. Or those that make bank on gullible people's gullibility with what I consider to be no better than voodoo and, sometimes, hate speech. Televangelists are the main target there, btw.

And childhood indoctrination is no better than any of this, really. Let your kid make his own decisions, and let him believe what he feels is right. I'm not going to disown my future children for being Christian or Muslim, or whatever they feel fits best their beliefs, and I'm certainly not going to push one thing onto them, even atheism.

i totally agree. i could not have said it any better...
Well a long time ago The bible proved Science wrong with things like... The bible says the world is a orb while science said it was flat. There are a whole lot of details like this. If the bible was right about those things waaaaaay back when way is it wrong today?? As far as I know science never in one instance proves the bible wrong. The only thing that people say that science proves the bible wrong are scientific theories, which obviously can't be proven anyways. And most people I have heard of that seek to prove the bible wrong end up gaining faith.

A lot of people can't think for themselves, sarc. I agree. They tend to follow whoever, and a lot pick religion. Not all morons are Christian, though. Not all morons are religious. Hell, I know of a kid that thinks his "spirit" is a 100 foot tall demon. he's as ****in stupid as it gets, but he's atheist because he thinks people are stupid for believing in a God they can't see.

As for "childhood indoctrination," I will be teaching my son to be Christian, because while I think he should learn to think for himself and will be a little disappointed but not distraught if he chooses another path later in life, I believe that disbelief in Jesus as the Messiah and son of God can grant you a ticket to Hell. I understand that that's not your belief and you don't like the idea that people have beliefs, but it's mine and I'd rather my son, when he comes to the age where he's no longer considered an innocent, be educated in my beliefs to the point that he doesn't go to Hell, being that that is a possibility, which I believe it is. I think that's clear.

On another note, people that don't believe in dinosaurs might go to Heaven, but they'll be the stupidest ones there and I'll be making fun of them when we meet.

Supermassive black hole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, apparently, the bigger they get the weaker they are, since it says that their volume is inversly proportionate to their density, and their density is directly proportionate to their gravitational power.

neth i think we should start a thread, theres somethings i've learned now because of this, yes i do know about supermassive black holes, i believe they are after maths of some red giant's or quasars or something like that. The radiation they do let out im pretty sure is not from the epicenter of the blackhole for reasons i posted earlier. But i think i read somewhere its all the matter that is swirling and closing into the supermassive and regular blackholes. As they move across each other i guess they heat up with alot of energy and release frequencies of EM radiation that are just out of the gravitational pull. The book was published 2001.

And also to the other things about science and religion disproving each other. Yes i believe both had their faults. But from the early greek age it was demcrotise (i think thats him) who figuired out and named what an atom was (which means literally uncuttable). I believe that his views were dismissed for favor of aristotle which worked well with the religious views of the present. Did science believe the earth was flat? I never knew that!. But i do know that one of the main religions said that everything revolved around the earth, and galileo (or someone) was able to prove them wrong and pay for it by house arrest.
I think it was more tradition that said everything revolved around the earth. The romans believed it religiously, yes, but nowhere in the Bible does it say it. Rome was Italy, Galileo was from Italy, so I'm sure a few things carried over and people hate change.

Start up a thread if you want. Smile I dunno if I'd be able to contibute much, but if anything it'll provoke me to learn, and that never hurts.

That seems to be one of the weird faults in religion. Shouldn't atheists have access to "heaven" if they are good people, even though they don't believe in God? And if God is, indeed, omniscient, shouldn't he understand why people would be skeptical?

I think it's more important, if you're trying to raise a kid that will get into heaven, that you teach him to be a good person before you even begin to teach them about religion, if that is your choice. Because they don't go hand-in-hand. Sometimes they actually work against each other, and being a good person should take priority.
Math... You're on crack. Or severely ignorant.

No, I do not worship Satan. I do not 'worship' anyone or anything. My life is too short to be devoted to something I cannot see, hear, feel or speak to. I march to the beat of my own drum and don't need to depend on something 'of a higher power' to dictate how I live my life.

I believe I'm here for a reason, and will go for a reason. I don't believe some superficial hand of a man put me here, I think my folks were just randy Wink

Ew.

you can live 120 fricking years, it takes barely a few months to discover the entire bible. or is it true that you cannot spare a small fraction of your life reading the bible?
