Blizzard close 350,000 cheating accounts!
#1
Blizzard have identified and banned ~350,000 accounts!

Battle.net Wrote:As part of our continued effort to ensure a fair and fun online experience for all Battle.net players, we have expanded our efforts to remove cheaters from StarCraft and Diablo II. We have identified and closed over 350,000 StarCraft and Diablo II accounts which were found to be using third-party hacks.

The Diablo II CD keys associated with the closed Diablo II accounts are now restricted from playing on Battle.net for approximately 30 days. Repeat offenders will have their accounts closed and their CD keys permanently banned from Battle.net.

As a reminder, we reserve the right to close the accounts and ban the CD keys of players who are caught cheating on Battle.net. Cheating ruins the game experience for legitimate players, and we will not tolerate it.

hmm, this number seems too big to be true.
for starcraft, there is roughly 60-70k people on at once. maybe less (im too lazy to log onto battle.net and check)
and there is certainly no more than 100k people playing D2 at once.
but what they did say they closed were accounts, so im guessing they targeted people's mule accounts as well.

Not helpful, Math.

But yeah I heard they were targeting mules.

I just thought that 350k is effing huge. I was interested to know how many players they have active, if they banned that many people =/

350k accounts is only like 150k at the most. I'm sure the majority of these accounts were mules, I had 4 mule accounts at one point, if they said 350k cd-keys or ips banned I'd be speechles.

[Edit] I'd like to add that anyone who was dumb enough to use a loader/bot/hack right after a warden update deserved a ban...way to be an idiot.

100k might be conservative with D2. You have to add all the people playing expansion with those playing classic, then softcore, hardcore, ladder, and non-ladder for each, then each realm. And keep in mind that there are a lot of private games up that you don't see on the game list. That's a damn lot of people.

Isn't there a population counter in the chat window that told you on how many people were playing on that current realm?
