also if he really did stop making an update...why isnt it posted on laz's main site?

Unfortunately I'm not the only one to post/upload cheats ! Look in the thread, they are drop mods for MXL.

But Laz is always overreacting for everything, I don't think he aborted the 1.90 patch because they are some hacks. He know that if he won't release updates, his mod is doomed.

I decided to remove my pack in order to save the MXL community.

Anyway my pack was bugged due to some stupid caps,rollovers and so on...
Look at the skill Gamma field, it has negative values. Same thing for the damages of the spearzon (Krom).
You thing you do more than 1 million fire damage with pyroblast ?

Oh, it wasn't just ONE CHEAT.

It was ONE CHEAT + the fact that over 50% of the players maphack + the frequency of posts saying the random modifier recipe doesn't work after X tries (= user duped the item) + the fact that there was already a drop mod two weeks after release + the amount of hacked/duped items on Hamachi (it is well known that every Starhawk has the same stats), ruining the game for innocent newbies + the fact that people gladly use -direct to avoid the PlugY respec block and hammer the respec button hoping to trigger the PlugY bug that was the whole reason for the block and end up with 1000 skill points + the fact that the resolution hack (which allows you to see monsters before they see you, teleport twice as far etc.) is considered 'not really a cheat' + the wide spread of piracy in the community + the fact that M2008 was absolutely hacked to pieces by every private realm in existence, usually breaking things in the process and resulting in bug reports to me + etc...

The only reason why not absolutely everyone cheats is because Hero Editor doesn't work and the instant gratification kiddies give up at that point.

The excuse I hear a lot of times is 'it's just single player'. In other words, it is apparently okay to cheat to win against the computer but not against other players. In yet other words, single player games have no reason to exist or be challenging. Odd reasoning, this.

It was posted in the forum, but not on the front page because telling new users that 'this mod is so infested with cheaters that I give up, lol' is hardly good advertising.

Then the thread turned into a discussion of whether I have the right to put an ultimatum on the cheaters and I deleted it.

Considering Median is the only non-sucky mod that is updated at all, and people were happy to play M2008 1.57 for a year, I find this statement a bit dubious.

Yes. I banned that guy from my forum the instant he posted it there. He came back with a smurf account and posted the link again in every forum yelling something about power to the people. Never mind that getting banned is exactly what would happen if you posted a maphack link on the Blizzard forums.

The freedom to give hacked/duped items with +205% spell damage to other players so the game is ruined for them? Or the freedom to provide people with hacked level 120 characters that can do every uberquest easily so people no longer have a reason to actually level up a new character, so the game is ruined for them?

Or my freedom to choose to prevent people from ruining the game for others?

The bottom line is, if cheating is so easy that you have to be a paladin to avoid the temptation to cheat, then a lot of people will be seduced into cheating and quit the game, then find another mod that doesn't have as many cheaters. So yes, you cheating in single player impacts my business interests as soon as you post a screenshot of you easily defeating Quov Tsin with your hax, like a few dozen people have been doing so far.

hey the pack wasnt that great anyways, i just needed the Gold and a few unique items. ive deleted all my charaters (including the legit level 33 chatacter seeing as the -Act 5 thing is apparently a cheat. but i kept the shared stash file for the Gold. mystic orbs are expensive

i did manage to hack your Mod (only to enable one thing) but i swore never to release it, then hours later this guy releases it cause of an independent study.

oh and laz i remeber in a forum post that you said there will be no new content, eastern sun much?

Allow me to disagree there. This monstermod you've made cannot be matched by any other...well, except maybe Diablo 3 itself. I realise that cheats in your mod sound extremelly irritating to you, as well as the community (and online, that is a plague) but if they want to spoil it for themselves, then so be it. I agree that they'll advertise their "accomplishments" to others and drive some legit players to quitting the mod, but the truth still remains that your mod is the best atm. Cheats or no cheats, it's the best hands-off. It may not be comforting to say that people like your mod so much they want to cheat to fully enjoy it (only a cheater can appreciate this pov btw), but that's just how it is. Though, I really don't think that was overreacting on your part, I'm sure everyone would feel the same if it was their mod. Just saying my points so that I remain neutral in this convo/sh*tstorm...

Laz looks at this place and all he can see is a boat, someone poked a hole in the floor and either everyone swims or everyone sinks...

The again, Fl4r3, believe me when I say, not most of cheaters are "Kids" per say, to say the least, average cheaters age vary from 16-40 depending on games and bla bla.

People look at cheaters in various ways, example, Laz see cheaters and thinks frustration. so on and so forth

but, they never look at it through the cheaters eyes...

No I'm not taking anyone's side since I am, and always will be neutral with these kinds of situations, never have.

What I'm saying is, people cheat for many different reasons,

1. They want to see whats coming. (They hate suspense)
2. They don't have time to spend in such things. (Work, studies etc.)
3. They want to see what the whole fuzz is all about. without taking the time and pleasure of enjoying the game.

Now look here, I admire laz for his outstanding idea with this mod and I have posted in some other topic that he should try to communicate with the Diablo II dev team to see if they can use Laz' ideas for a expansion. Wouldn't hurt to try, but no one can expect to have a complete legitimate community. It's just wishful thinking and nothing else.

Agree here. Its like watching a movie on dvd - when you will find out that you have to do something other (go for children into school, ...)
but you want to see how the story ends - you will rewind / skip to the end or another passage.

It was MY choice to buy that film, and no law tells that I must see that movie from start to end,
regardless if I want to see one scene. Is this cheating?

One thing i find fascinating whenever i read these forums is that Laz interjects and calls it "my mod"

A legal evaluation however is that, when he released it on the net and we downloaded it, it became ours. that is in a legal sense only though.

If Laz truly wanted to call it his own he would have to have a copyright of it and considering blizzard has that already that's not an option. again, this is only the legal issues.

If Laz hates cheaters, he can, his choice. However, if Laz wants to share his mod with anyone via the internet he would have to accept the fact that once the download is out of his hands he can't control other people's actions.

He can threaten to stop progress on the mod as a means of deterring others from cheating "his mod" but if he really wants to share his progress and work he cannot MAKE others not modify his game.

For those who hack online, oh well, shit happens as the saying goes. Until Laz gets a realm where hacks, bots, and other program modifications can be restricted there is no way to make people not hack. the only solution to that problem is to talk with blizzard and work at it from that way.

on single player though, its their computer and their life. Why people hack is no buisiness of anyone else, laz included. If i (i'm speaking rhetorically of course) sit in my own home and download MXl and hack the crap out of it it is my business, if i choose to release it online it is also my business to do so. All anyone else can do is yell and scream and threaten online but no action will come against me as an individual.

to jump everyone's throat everytime they hack and release their hacks is an invasion upon their rights to do so. admitably Laz also has rights, but when I download MXL onto my computer he cannot expect to tell me what to do with my computer, we're not in the military and he is not the general.

I don't see blizzard jumping at Laz and other modders for screwing with their programs now do i? do you? no, because until they aim to profit off of it, it has no bearing on reality.

get a grip, it IS JUST A GAME! a matra to remember people, if it disappears you'll live. its not bread, water, or shelter.

I'll say that if Laz thinks he can just stop production and keep his fans he should try, see how that works out. however, if he enjoys the attention his GREAT mod gets from the community he wont stop it just because everyone tears it apart, we all still love it. Furthermore, if he stops production because of this post i will only laugh in response, for such an action is only warranted by someone who either has a severe authority issue or has the maturity of a six year old.

i guess to sum up all of this i could just send this: get a grip people and enjoy the game, however you want to do it.
