If I used 2008 for a while, then I wanted to upgrade to XL, would my character follow over to XL even though its a 2008 character?

you can carry over the character itself... but you have to drop EVERYTHING from your inventory before you switch over... the characters are compatible, none of the items are thought, except certain ones, but i'll let you find out which

There is no ethical reason to do so. They are two different mods. Make a new character.

true, if playing legit, the best thing is to start fresh, the transfer over would screw with your stats and skills... it makes the game weird if you don't know how to fix it
