This is a glitch I found out just the other night. I've asked around a lot and apparently no one else knew it either. You can get to A4 without killing Meph!
To do this, you will need a Barb with Leap. In Durance 3, go to the platform right behind the red portal and Leap over the gap to in front of the portal. As you pass over the portal, the bridge with emerge, and you can go into the portal to A4...all without killing Meph. Of course, people like killing Meph, so this is just one of those Eggs you find every once in a while I guess. ;p
