Changes from V1.03 to V1.04:

• added the 5 new items (Token of Absolution, etc.)
  
• added "Akara has Reset Stat/Skill Points" to Act I, Quest I
  
• set the Gold limit for the Stash to the new flat cap
  
• mass Stat removal added (e.g. remove prayer from all items with one click, BUT, each aura can be removed separately, and not all auras at once)

just downloaded your editor. i am unable to save character after editing. i've got newest patch.
Error message:
Problems encountered when trying to Save Character to a file
Unable to delete the original file.
Make sure file is not Read Only, and the Character name is 'legal'

smae error i've got with previous editors.

Hey are you trying to edit an existing character or make one from scratch?
Also you may need administrator privileges to save to the file(hero editor automatically saves to the default diablo 2 folder usually C:\Program Files\Diablo II\save.I'm gonna download the new version and see what I can find out.

Try right clicking on the editor and running the program as administrator. Also I'm betting your smarter than this but if you are trying to open your character in the editor while you have your character open in Diablo 2, it could produce that error.

You can turn that off altogether if you want. Go to control panel > user accounts > then there should be an option for user account control, turn it off.

It's not all that great of an idea just to turn it off without understanding that it "may" protect your computer, though.

Please help, running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on a new computer as of last week, Used this program back in the day to perfection and I have been playing d 2 lately, have 3 characters...... the editor will not find them... I can go into the diablo 2 saved and they are there.... going through the editor to save there is nothing... whats going on?

are your files saved as .d2s files? these are the one the hero needs to look in.

I guess I dont know what you are asking, the files as in my character? looks like a ma0 file map and a key file lol Not trying to be difficult just learning I guess, the editor is looking in that saved file for .d2s

yes hero editor looks for the .d2s file - that is the file it needs to open - so if you do have a d2s file and hero editor is not seeing it you might try running it in win xp and/or admin mode

I'm currently running into an issue myself when I attempt to run the program, more so after it's started and I try to open a character or anything. I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit, 8 GB RAM. The error message looks like this:

Run-time error '32765':
The common dialog function failed during initialization. This error often occurs when insufficient memory is available.

did you try installing it in admin mode and might try the win xp/admin modes

Tried it all. I can't make sense of it. I'm no comp wiz obviously, lol. I also looked quite a bit online to figure if the Unicode could be changed, but I don't seem to see anything for it for Windows 7 if that may be the issue. Microsoft website had something but I might just be too big a dummie to understand it. I appreciate your time, help, and how fast you got back to me though. Thank you. I don't want to give up yet, but it's looking grim to me. I'm thinking it's a software issue maybe.. maybe my darn firewall or Anti Virus you think? Not sure.. :/

I wouldn't think it be one of them - have you tried using one of the pre-made chars see if it will open one of them?

I found it and obviously didn't try everything. I had two Hero Editor Icons in my download.. one was inside a zip inside the initial zip somehow.. and I was trying to use the one in the original zip. I just had to open the other zip file with more items inside and use it. Hopefully there isn't/wasn't a virus with it, lol. TY for your patience and help Comper. Alright, I have had no problems running the editor, been using it for awhile now, but noticed one thing about necs now that I have made one... I have not set skills, or item attributes above any caps, in fact all I have done is make 1.10 rune words that work on non ladder (list of them at arreat summit), and actually set my stats to have 490, and my skills to have 98, without +skill quests (that I left to finish). The problem is, none of the radius changes on the curses. Decrepify is only 4 yards, and amp damage made it up to 6.6 even though its at lvl 27, it should be more like 15 yards. I have also been running it as administrator so I don't think that would be problem either. If anyone can help let me know. Thanks in advance.

on this one - Decrepify is only 4 yards - that is right 4 yards is max on any lvl
and on amp damage how many hard points have you added to it? not sure why its not more on this unless its a bug in the editer
