OK.. I just got Diablo2(version 1.0) and i finished installing it and the test said I needed dierectx 7a or higher. so i went to download.com and downloaded directx 9.0 or something. the test still said the same think afterwwerds. Then I tried playng anyways and it started and then said "error 22: Critical error has occured while initializing DirectDraw.( I have windows xp, dont know if that matters)
What should I do? Plz help! thx

no need to bump a thread thats already on top
as for your problem try to reinstall your direct x and make sure it's up to date

The thing is is that I just got my windows xp reformatted so I have no sound. The guy said I would have to download sound but I dont know where or how...so, yeah

well lol your system is too low i got window's xp and i dont have probelm's bysides the dailey "error" map hack

After downloading DirectX 9.0 did you happen to install it by any chance?

Doesnt it install it automatically after i download it? If not, then thats my problem
I went to microsoft.com and I downloaded Directx 9.0b. Thta's good right? And before that i downladed 7a, not knowing there was a 9.0. Man im so stupid:o
so I install it and it says to restart the computer, which it does. When the coputer comes back on a thing pops up and says that I have to download java virtual machine. I dont know if it has anything to do with directx but whatever.

reinstall your drivers and
adjust your screen resolution if it a video problem

where do i set it to directdraw? I run the video test and it says no video modes found. It says I need to install directx 7a or higher then install the current video drivers matching the viersion of directd you have installed.

try this
start>programfiles>diabloII
and run the video test at the end of the test select it to use DirectDraw
and see iof that works

I cant run diabloII, but I can run the test, and theres nowhere to select to use directdraw at the end of th test....
