whats the best virus scanner to buy? my computer is goin kinda hinky on me and methinks it needs a good scannin, computer running incredibly slow suddenly (P4 3ghz should not take this long to do stuff), and gettin random messages about corrupted files. also lookin for some reliable spyware seek and destroyer also, any help would be greatly appreciated

I use AVG. It's pretty good and doesn't eat up resources like Norton and McAfee does. It's free for personal use, but it costs money if you want it for your company.
#47
where can i get it? im not a company hehe, just a lone bad guy searchin for the lightning eagle sword

AVG is TERRIBLE. And McAfee doesn't eat up my resources. I got a gig of RAM a Radeon 9600XT and a 2.1P4 in my comp. Maybe thats why it dont take up nothin....?

AVG is cool. I have an AMD K6-2 500 Mhz processor with 128 MB SDRAM. ATI 3D Rage Pro graphics card. An old ESS sound card. Lucent Win Modem. The OS is Windows 98 SE. Norton and McAfee run slow on my computer. AVG runs pretty good. Only annoying thing it does is if you have a virus that's about to run on your computer, it'll switch to DOS and ask you if you want to enable access to the file. Once you select an option it'll go back to windows. Most of the time it'll screw up a game you were playing and have to reload it but would you rather play a game and let your files get eaten by a virus or get rid of the virus and have to reload from the last save point which was hours ago? You gotta update it constantly just like with the other antivirus programs.

If you want to know where to find it, use Google. Search engines are there for a reason Smile Once you find their site and choose to download it, don't worry to much about filling out the form. It's just for emailing you the access code for it.

McAfee / Norton = S H I T! I wont let them anywhere near this sites server.. Dual Xeon 3.06GHZ 2GB RAM.. + this server is Linux anyway... Windows is a Joke for a web server! I personally use Windows Server 2003 for normal day to day use on my network.

suggest a better one than mr pro. McAfee doesnt slow my computer down more than diablo. And diablo takes 2% of my comp. And spitfire get AMD Athlon 64. I am and it will pwn your processor.
#52
hey you **** whit... The only reason i have Dual Xeons on the server is because they are the best on the market at the moment. My normal home Pc's are both Athlon Bartons. I'm not going to waste my money on a damn processor. I have a life these days. My money will go towards my car (most likely a supercharger $7000 - next on my list followed by a nos tank. damn $1000) and my girlfriend. Mcafee uses alot more resources than most Viral programs. Vet is one you probably havent heard of. I see very little difference having it on / off.
