Ladder Season Ending

As you all probably know, the first ladder season of Diablo 2 Expansion is coming to it's end.
It's been a great season accordingly to me. In the beginning there were some problems with account scams and such things but still it's been a very hack and scam free season.

Blizzard announced the ending of this season on June 25, 2004:

"The Diablo II 1.10 Ladder Season 1 will soon come to an end and Blizzard would like to thank all the players -- New, Returning and Veteran alike -- for making this a great Season. As a special treat to reward the Top Players from around the world, we will be immortalizing the Top 10 Expansion and Expansion Hardcore Characters in each of the 7 Classes on the Blizzard website. That's 140 players from each Realm!"

No exact date was announced, but I'm going to go ahead and guess that the ending will take place withing the coming week. Anybody who knows an exact date please post it!
And about the "Immortalization of the Top Players".. This is kind of interesting. As from what I've heard, they will be placed on a special Hall of Fame or something on Blizzards homepage. Is this correct? Type what you know.
What more is that the Ladder Season #1 characters will be moved to a special group that cannot be mixed with either Ladder Season #2 or Non-Ladder. I actually thought from the beginning that Ladder Season #1 characters would be mixed with the Non-Ladder characters.
Also type information on your opinion on the season ending. Would you have liked it to continue a little longer or should they have restarted the ladder earlier?
Also please rate the Ladder Season #1 on a scale from 1 to 5. I know that it's probably hard to rate since this is the first season and you have nothing to compare it with. Also type amusing/interesting/annoying things that happened during your time on this ladder season. Also type some thoughts and opinions on what you are going to do now that the season ends. Are you going to pause the playing and enjoy your summer vacation? Maybe keep playing on Ladder Season #1 or move on to #2 and start it all over? Maybe youre tired of ladder and are moving on to non-ladder? Or are you simply tired of D2 and is going to quit playing?

I thought so too when they first announced it, but it's changed. Someone asked it @ B.net forums and they are going to be mixed with non-ladder characters, but they can keep their ladder-only items, since there will be new for ladder only.

Then they say that hey will split them up to protect the ladder only items.
Now they are back to plan one? They really gotta announce this shit... its pissing me off.

spirit keeper unique shadow plate

and constricting rings

and make them all 2nd ladder only

They left Merman's Sprocket's out because they were too powerful. And adding them would make bone necros and hammerdins really suck in duels.

this shit with the ladder reset is getting out of hand. Blizzard did it again. They ****ed up.
Accordingly to new sources of information the ladder reset will be in october or a few months earlier.
WTF? why the heck did they announce that the ladder would reset "soon" now ?? these guys are whack. And today at 12.01 the WC3 Ladder was reset. ARGHH!!! this can't be true..!!

just make em like super rare, i mean rare as in .000000000000000000000000000000000000045 chance to drop from pindle, and lowered stats, besides hammerdins still would own, they could just switch a weapon and necros really f%#king **** me off with their summoning lag.

well i think they should just mash all of it together and wait for 2seson to start then transfer all ladder to ladder 2 and just like hold all ladder items out of nl utill ladder 2 comes in
