*All IE (internet explorer) Users Read*
#1
Quote:This has already been reported and posted, but the story keeps developing and we like to keep you updated:

Users are being told to avoid using Internet Explorer until Microsoft patches a serious security hole in it.

The loophole is being exploited to open a backdoor on a PC that could let criminals take control of a machine.

The threat of infection is so high because the code created to exploit the loophole has somehow been placed on many popular websites. Experts say the list of compromised sites involves banks, auction and price comparison firms and is growing fast.

Cert said: "Users should be aware that any website, even those that may be trusted by the user, may be affected by this activity and thus contain potentially malicious code."
In its round-up of the threat the Internet Storm Center bluntly stated that users should if possible "use a browser other then MS Internet Explorer until the current vulnerabilities in MSIE are patched."

It is unclear how the malicious code that exploits the weakness in Microsoft's Internet Explorer has been inserted on popular websites. What is known is that any Windows 2000 Server that does not have the MS04-011 security update installed and is running Internet Information Server could be at risk.

i suggest getting mozilla-firefox until this is patched
to scan for infection
Search for files called
Kk32.dll
Surf.dat
and keep anti-virus software up to date

EDIT: to help you out sum here murder since u r tryin to help ppl, i'll throw in some advice. From everyone I talked to norton 2004 isn't all that great, if you want to purchase Norton try to get 2003 system works it's great I use it. (NOTE that i haven't had any problems with viruses and my comp is 2 years old now) 2004 seems to have alot of errors in it. Just to let evryone know.

I have Norton 2003 but, for some reason the norton antivirus was "turned off" so that iit would not always be scanning my comp or check my emails. the only way i could fix the problem was to re-instal it. im sure that it is a virus or something that was disabling it but im not sure. and norton antivirus(2003) could not find anything and the only thing spysweeper found was something called speedblast, i think(its always there but i just sweep to get rid of it before i go online). is there any major difrinces between Norton Antivirus 2003 and Norton Antivirus 2004?

Other than 2004 doesn't have ghost backup and 2003 does, I don't believe so. They both work effectively. I had that problem a long time ago with norton 03. I'll screw around with a few things and let you know what I did to fix it when I can remember how i did it myself. (without re-installing it) Also, do you use both ad-aware and sybot S&D for killing spyware? get both if you don't use both already.

like ive alwayz said, the more the merrier!

ive seen things that ada-ware wont catch, but S&D will, and the other way around, ive gotten viruses that norton wouldnt see, but Avantis would (i think its avantis anyway)..

ive gotten the habit of getting two software of each, cuz not all of them are the same

How does norton compare to kasperky's and mcaffee?

Norton is best overall but don't rely on just norton as kev said "the more the merrier"

But, if you had a few anti-virus programs running wouldnt it make your computer run slow cus, most have a program running in back thats always scanning your computer..or is mcaffee's and the other one a lot diffrent from Norton?
