i have just started build a necro. i was wondering should i max mage and revive. i want to be pure summon btw. though i m not sure whether it is good.

yeah same for me . summon necro are good in duel when u got tons of summon and u duel with them.

orb pwns on skels tho unless they got summon resist and hammerdins pwn skel necros. just thought id get that off my chest. I heard Blizz is thinkin of makin D3!

i don't build summon necros and never have, but I know the curse makes or breaks a summon necro

Iron maiden is shit with this new patch. Here's the best build so far that I have experimented with:
Points in this order:
5 into skele
1 into amplify damage
Max Skeleton
1 point into lower resist and all other curses leading up to it
Max Skeleton Mage
5 in Summon Resist
1 in Bone Prison with 1 in the prereq's
Max Summon Mastery
5 in revive
Max Skeleton Mage
Rest into revive
So in the end you should have:
20 Skeleton
20 Skeletal Mage
20 Summon Mastery
20 Summon Resist
1 in Lower Resist
1 in Bone Prison
1 in all prerequisites
Your main 1 point wonder spells are the curses, Bone prison, Iron Golem and Corpse Explosion. Remember that Corpse Explosion does half fire and half physical damage, so it does not really matter if you use Amplify Damage or Lower Resist when corpse exploding.
Gear (poor-ish):
Full Trang's
Arm of king Leoric
1 Buhamat's ring
1 Fast cast ring
Silkweaves
Any rare/magical +3 to summoning amulet, or a +2 to necro skills amulet

Doom/CtA (doom if you want aura and don't have merc, otherwise CtA)

One of the questions which arose often was: Why don't I use the marrow bug? Simple. It's useless! Being able to actually USE bone prison is much better than just putting on 100 damage to teeth and bone spear, or add 50 absorb to bone armor. Bone prison is a very useful skill when used properly, especially with a summoner Necromancer.

Eh, summoning necros aren't my forte but this is what i'd do in my opinion:
20 Skeleton Mastery
20 Skeleton
20 Summon resist
10+ Revive
1 Skeleton Mage
3+ Amplify Damage
I'd just put one point in mage, and max out your melee skeletons. Besides, if you have massive skill gear you'll get your mages without wasting precious points from summon resist or mastery.

first off dont use mages they suck balls they die mad quick and there dmg is not enough max
20 skele mastery
20 skele warrior
10-15 summon res
1 in fire golem
1 in golem mastery
add to amp and then max CE
Use enigma, and beast adn darkforce
and on merc get a might merc and use doom and bramble ownage/.

Well here is what i did...
i maxed skeleton, mage, skeleton mastery.
for golem i put 1 in iron golem and max golem mastery.
Then i put 1 in amp damage.
and i put 1 in teeth just so i can do something lol
