If you have Hero Editor V0.80, then press the F1 key to pop up a Help file. This should give you a good idea about many of the features of Hero Editor.

There is no great secret about what makes good items and characters. You basically have to learn lots -- I am still learning too. Most importantly, don't believe "anything" that you hear -- test everything to see what actually happens. Very little about D2 makes sense. For example, if you stack a lot of +479 to Life, and Lvl 31 Oak Sage Aura, you can get your life up over 8M. But if you get much over 8M, you die easily by low damage. So, it is best to keep your life below or just above 8M. (NOTE: Your life globe will look empty when your life is above ~32K, but just ignore this -- go to Akara, and your life will fill up to the max.)
