big speed increase on wireless router??
#1
ok well i moved and the house i came to had cox like i had too. so since you can only have 1 modem per account, i had to get a wireless router and go off the modem we already have.

i haven't really noticed a difference on web surfing(was instant anyways) but when downloading a file in limewire, instead of getting 90ish kbs i'm literally getting a steady 200+kbs everytime. anyone have any ideas why? i mean, my internet still comes off cox and all. and yes they use the same speed service.

i used a modem here too(we used 2 at a time until my old cox account got canceled) and got 90ish too btw.

go to google
search for "myspeed"
do the speed test with ur modem, and then do it again with ur wireless router
that's the only more or less sure way to tell if there is a difference, or if its just coincidence

its too late now, my modem doesn't work. we only have one that works and if i go to take if off everyones going to be like "wtf are you doing?!!11!!??". but yeah i found this pretty odd. my signal strength is listed at "low" sometimes too even.

lol, i can relate to that.. well then if u have high speed internet then ur downloads should be at 200k, maybe ur modem was just slowing it down

that might have been it, but the modem is new. the modem which the wireless hub is connected to now is like 1-2years older than the one i was using too.

mmmm.. the cox itself at your new house could be better (newer) thus allowing the signal to travel faster. well thats my only guess as to why its faster at your new house
