Tragedies on the other side of the world.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Up to 200 killed in Baghdad bombs

Why does no one care about this? Everyone just seems to try and sweep these events under the rug and forget about them. I'm not saying that the war is good or bad or that something should or should not be done about this. I just want people to be aware of this. Innocent people dying every day and no one cares? Is it because it is not happening in America or have we just become desensitized to such act of violence?

i think tis the latter, no one cares if the sunni bitches die or not, remeber there are less than 60k sunni insurgents out there and that, is a large number

who says no one cares?
im sure people over there care much about their loved ones. people die so much, that if we're not connected, 10 of their deaths is just no comparable to an ijury of one of ours.

I have no idea what you just tried to say Crime. re-read your post before you leave a page.

Anyway, Mathalamus you're a ****ing idiot. Your ignorance is not an excuse for stupidity, keep your mouth shut before throwing your useless opinions that you probably just adopt through watching horrendously biased fox news (or any other american news channel as a matter of fact).

To Ragnaw/e, no one gives a shit because everyone is a ****ing selfish bastard and people care of no one but themselves and THEIR loved ones. An isr aeli soldier is injured, the whole world knows of it in half a second and it is all over the news; 200 muslim PEOPLE die (Who gives a shit about their religion, it doesn't make them any less human than you or me) and a 2 minute news report is made about it and it is quickly forgotten of.

A little hint for you to understand why what I described above is happening: remember which kind of people own the broadcasting stations and who are the wealthiest people, then you'll figure it out.

Don't bother debating with me, if you believe otherwise you are wrong.

I just don't understand how 32 > 200. Unless you know someone who was directly involved in it of course.

Might have made a mistake or two in the quote but you get the idea.

wait a sec.. what the hell are you guys watching/listening to? every single day i hear how many iraqis were killed, or about the continuing genocide in darfur, or how messed up the presidency in zimbabwae is. try these websites, bbc, as rag mentioned or npr, or pbs.

rag, i think that you may be going a bit to far. other cable channels here mention that, well maybe not as much, but they still do.

I think it is a shame more Americans don't pay more attention to what's going on in other parts of the world. However most cultures are ethnocentric and what happens at "home" is more relavent to most people versus what happens elsewhere. People in Islamic countries are continually killing each other (we get tired of hearing about it), and not to start another arguement but Islam isn't exactly a peaceful religion. We should be paying more attention to what happens elsewhere because the causes of the violence and death elsewhere are spreading and the results will follow. Unless America wakes up soon to what is happening to places all over the world it will be happening here more often.

American people are ****ing assholes. They dont care unless it happens less than 800 miles away. Yeah, I have pride in my country just not in the people in it. **** Americans.

you guys seem to only be able to find the problems with the american people. l4e your an ego maniac and you are clearly an ahole. Americans have always chosen to be more aware of their surroundings. It like that in almost every country in the world, no one cares what happens here in poland. It just doesnt concern them. america as a people are some of the best people in the world. there are figures who are constently raising money for africans, and people who live in poverty stricken countries. but the reason we dont care about 200 muslims dieing is because ther is no connection between them and us. how many of you (exluding military personnel here) know arabs, sunnis or muslims over there? i dont but i know marines and army figures there now. my cousin just enlisted. I am always going to be more concerned about him then about some arab dieing.

of course you would be naturally more concerned about him, you know him personally. it is all to easy for us to turn a blind eye though because we dont know the affected persons who are thousands of miles away

Of course we are more concerned with loved ones and relatives!!WTF? It does not mean we do not NOTICE the other deaths.Hell many people I love to death live all over the world.
Does this mean I am as concerned about crime in their neighborhood as I am in mine?
Oh please...I do not bullshit and I am not about to start now.

Lets get one thing straight, this may sound like a heartless thing to say....but... It's war people are going to die. Most Americans are concerned with what is going to affect THEM, in this case our troops dying. Don't get me wrong i'm sorry for every one that has died/ lost loved ones and i completely agree that this war is complete bullshit and we have a man whose IQ is barely above the mental retardation line in the white house and at the helm of the most powerful military known to man. Remember i'm just stating that Americans care about what is going to directly affect them. I have lost loved ones in Iraq I know how you feel.

Also alot of people feel this way because of the media. The news forces so much of their shitty views into our brains it makes me want to ****ing puke. They are reporting stories but also putting their views along in there and trying to get as much money out of stories as they can. Take for example, when the V. Tech shooter sent NBC i think it was that package with his pictures and video explaining why he did it and what did they do, they aired insted of calling the police or the FBI the greedy bastards were like "****ING GOLD MINE" and put it on the air. They knew if they dident cash in on it first another station would.

I'm starting to agree with MetalHead on alot of things, Such as this country is great but Americans suck hard core. Our government if full of retards. and a whole bunch of other shit is wrong with it too.

NBC first consulted the FBI before anything else. After that, they had an internal discussion as to whether or not to air it. They determined that it was worth it to air it on the grounds of public knowledge and not profit. People need to understand why he did that. The truth, however twisted it is from a killer must be put out. Or else people will ask why.

That is true that they contacted the FBI first but they do try to invoke as much emotion, along with twist it to their side, to make as much money as possible. I think...a few months ago maybe...Someone got a hold of a transcript, or something similar, from Foxnews about a resent event. It basically pointed out how they should word things to make the story swing to their side.

The news industry is precisely what it is, an industry, that tries to make as much profit as possible. While i agree that the emotion can be toned down more, the public still has a right to know. This can be compared to the flag draped coffins, or the pictures from gitmo.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."
-Tommy Lee Jones in Men In Black

Not the best movie to quote in a serious discussion, but I've always loved that quote.

You guys keep generalizing people in large groups, so yeah you're gonna notice the negatives above all else. Americans aren't assholes. people are assholes. I don't care what country you live in, you're gonna care less if one of your neighboring countries has a few deaths then you would if one of you're own countrymen died.

Network Says It Debated for Hours Whether to Air Shooter's Images - washingtonpost.com
Washington Post Wrote:Network Says It Debated for Hours Whether to Air Shooter's Images
By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer

The unexpected package from Cho Seung Hui that arrived at NBC News yesterday morning contained both a worldwide scoop and a journalistic dilemma.
After turning over the original documents to federal authorities, NBC News President Steve Capus said last night, he faced a "tough call" in deciding how much to air, if any, of the Virginia Tech gunman's expletive-filled video and 1,800-word letter, along with photos of Cho and his guns and bullets.
"We tried to be sensitive to the families involved and to the investigation," Capus said in an interview. While it is "possible" that some relatives of the 32 students shot to death Monday may say that the network is giving the killer the platform he wanted, "they also may say, 'We want to know why. We need to know what was in his head, what drove him to do this.' This is a portrait of a killer."
Capus said Virginia State Police officials, in a conversation about noon, asked NBC to "hold off" on releasing the material until they had a chance to review the material. The state authorities gave NBC the green light about 4:30, saying it would not jeopardize the probe. The network aired portions of the video and note on "NBC Nightly News" at 6:30.
Anchor Brian Williams told viewers: "We are sensitive to how all of this will be seen by those affected, and we know we are, in effect, airing the words of a murderer here tonight. . . . So much of it is so profane, so downright gross and incomprehensible. We tried to edit carefully for broadcast tonight." The segment was posted on MSNBC - MSNBC - Breaking World and US News Stories & Headlines - Get the Latest Business, Health, Entertainment, Sports, & Technology updates from around the world Front Page.
