thirdly what i dont get is, we raise hundereds of thousands of dollars for other countries when our next door neighbors could use a little help. we need to make our country free of pverty itself, how can we help others when we suffer ourselves?

The world, this country included, will never be free of poverty. We have so many programs in place that help the needy and homeless, yet so many of them refuse this help or are too proud to ask for help. I hate to say, but most of those in poverty are there from their own choices.
