Hero Editor v0.66

It's a nice editor, just can't get it to load my character. It's a v1.09d character that I recently upgraded when v10 came out. Does this happen to anyone else?

The Hero Editor [.66] does not work with a 1.09d character moved to the new 1.10 patch. You get an error during the character load, and after that, you are told to set the "ignore errors" option. After you set the option, the .d2s file will load (apparently correctly) and changes are allowed to both the stats and items (I did not try skills, quests, etc).

I changed an item from etheral to normal and then saved and exited. Then I tried to run Diablo, and got a fatal error regarding a "bad inventory item" during the last stage of the load. I have made the exact same change on both 1.09d and 1.10s beta characters in the past with no problems.

If you get some time (a poor joke, as I am aware, with all that you've been doing lately) please take a look and see what it would take to correct this problem which would result in a new version.

Btw, I've also found some fairly major problems with how skills are being depicted; at least on both of my AMD based systems.

I tried remaking my character in the new version and v.66 of the hero editor still won't open it. Guess we'll have to wait for the next update.

0.66 was designed for the beta so any character saved in 1.10 will read as an error. there is a way to get around this by unchecking the report error box in the option menu but you might get some problems. I was able to load my char from 1.10 but importing certain items messed up the item's stats. Also, DO NOT ADD TO SOCKETS in the editor or else you will really mess up your character! We're all gonna have to wait for the full 1.10 compatible version.

I searched Google, and Diablo 2 Sector is the only one that has it, but they seem to be down (at least to me).

Thanks... but how about the required files? The txt file that came with it says that there are required files... and the application won't open... it says "Component 'TABCTL32.OCX' or one of these dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

The file posted "vb_files.zip" is missing Mscomm32.ocx. Without it I can't get 0.66 runing again. Can you post the files individually again or post a complete zip?

For anyone that wasn't already aware, I have released Hero Editor V0.7.

If you already have a previous version of Hero Editor working, you only need to get the "EXE" to upgrade to V0.7.

If you don't have a version of Hero Editor already working, then get the Full Install version of Hero Editor V0.7. UNZIP the downloaded file. There should be three files ("setup.lst", "setup.exe", "OS Setup.CAB"). Run (double click) the"setup.exe" file (or just "setup", if you have known file extensions hidden), and follow the directions (Click on the big button, on the left side). BTW, if a message comes up re “Version Conflict”, answer yes (to keep the newer file that you already have).

Hero Editor usually requires that you are using an English version of Windows. Make sure that you set the "regional and language settings" to English.


Spitfire: If you can't get the two ZIP files from that "other" site, then let me know, so you can get them directly from me.
