Criticle error trying to start Diablo
#1
I've been getting this criticle error when I try and launch Diablo 2.

" Error 22: A criticle error has occured while initializing Direct3D "

I went to the Blizzard's troubleshooting website and it seemed it was a common problem. I followed the instructions they told me. I have the latest video card drivers and the latest direct x. So they told me to run the video test that comes with Diablo 2 again and when I did, it'd said I had no video modes and that I can't play Diablo 2 anymore!
I reinstalled my video drivers and reinstalled Diablo and I'm still getting the same message. All my other games seem to work fine so I doubt that it's my card.
Anybody know what else I could do to try and fix this?

Run video test, select 2D graphics and not 3D, your vid card must not be able to handle it.

The thing is I COULD run it before, with Direct3D. I have a Radeon 9200 SE 128mb DDR which is more than enough to run Diablo 2.
Also when I try and run the video test, it doesn't pick any video modes up. Just says ' THIS COMPUTER CAN'T PLAY Diablo II ! ".

I have Nvidia 128 MB and it can run in 3D mode, just really badly... try doing driver updates.

I'm sure when I run it in Direct3D it runs flawlessly because well... I have before. If I can play Unreal 2004, Far Cry and Doom 3 no problem, it should run Diablo 2 like nothing, like it used to before this error came up.
I also have the latest video drivers (as I stated in the first post) and nothing has changed. I forgot to mention it said this before, but I tried it again in an hour and it went away. Doesn't seem to want to go away this time.

Hey no problem, you're only trying to help. I'm going to shut down the computer for the night and try it when I get home tomorrow night. I'll post to let you, or anyone else who has/had this problem, know if it'll work. Just thinking that my video card might be over heating. The heat sink does get very hot and with no fan cooling the heat sink could only be trouble.

thats because no matter how kick a@@ the video card is D2 3D isnt supported by any of todays vid cards.Run it in 2d trying to get d2 3D to work good is a wasted project.

Edit:also try here ask for Emerald to help ya http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?...pensupport

I already fixed the problem. It was my video card over heating (had some funny *** lines on my tv screen). I had my side pannel off for a day for maintenance and didn't put it back on. It ruins the air flow and I also have a fan on the side which blows directly onto my video card. Pretty stupid move.
So for future reference, keep case closed.
