i did this based on the comp thats currently NOT in pieces. I got 2gigs in one 1gig in another and the POS laptop i'm using only has 512mb.
ya you can get crap ram with crap timming's for real cheap. My corsair ram costs $250 a gig with 2-2-3-4 timmings.

Why not?? Because all the ram they sell at Best Buy and like is either value ram crap or the low speed crap you put in your 4yrs box. Beyond that most of it is Kingston, which given is a well known name and has SOME good ram but the only good stuff from Kingston is the Kingston Hyper X series. You'd be better off ordering a gig of Ballistic Value ram from Newegg than buying that crap non-Hyper X.
Maybe some of you are lucky and they sell al brands of ram at your local stores but all mine sell is the cheap stuff I would glue together and use as a coaster before I put it in my computer.

I dont know if you ran 2 high end opterons and filled all the ram slots with 1gig sticks....that would be 8gb's wouldnt it??? I couldnt see the purpose in doing it but it would be cool to brag about.

In all honesty yes, bragging isnt alway's a very smart thing to do 'cause there's almost alway's some out there who has better.

with computers nowadays i wouldnt be surprized. he prolly does. i have a 5 year old computer with shit ram - 256mb ram id really like that 512 ram stick that was talked about in the first place, and sinner, frys is a good place to shop, even though they are used.... you can prolly get a 300gb hard drave for like 40 bucks there.... hmmm, i wonder who removed me sig.... again... aw well, its just words, ill just re-add them.

Most real high end computers only have 1024 PC3200 MB DDRAM. I doubt that he actually has 3GB.

dude my friend has 2048. i wouldnt doubt that he has 3 gigs of ram. it is possible. ever heard of ram cards?? i have shit ram but a good motherboard., but low cpu speed. eh. i dont care. ill eventually get a new one.

You are either a low end computer enthusiast or have just hidden yourself away from the computer world for far to long. 3gb is not hard to come by nor is it beyond fesible. Sure its a little ludicrous if your using a 900mhz athlon but with a decent chip like a 3.0E or a 3200 XP its far from the realm of computing possiblities.
On and off note I almost edited your post instead of quoting hehehe . I'm still getting use to these mod thingies.
Edit: Most motherboards these days are designed to accomadate 4gb of ram max, or at least that is the max it will recognize. Yes they sell 2gb sticks but those are reserved for MUCH MUCH higher end server computers that they put in huge buildings with 100's of other computers that are just like them. So now there are a couple of sane ways to fill all your ram slots:
1.) 4x paired 512mb sticks
2.) 4x 1gb sticks (you can buy these paired as well and its recommended)
3.) 1x paired 512mb set and 1x paired 1gb set
Beyond one and two any other set ups just seem funny if not pointless, unless you just buy ram with any money you have laying around.

There are also 4GB sticks of DDR400 reserved for only the best of servers. Of course you could always use 128MB sticks of EDO. ^_^
