I need computer advice
#21
OH ! FOUND IT ! Alienware systems featuring SLI technology include PCI Express-equipped motherboards that support two physical PCI Express x16 connectors. These two connectors accomodate two NVIDIA-based PCI Express graphics cards that, when configured in SLI, allow the two graphics cards to drive a single PC display. This innovative multi-GPU technology is seamlessly integrated into every Alienware SLI-Enabled system to deliver a new-found era in PC performance.

I have to say I'm like super jealous.

My computer:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1993MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
Memory: 256MB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

MY COMPUTER SUCKS! Damn premade-out of date Dell... new stick of 512 RAM will cost me $300. I'm just gonna make my own.
#23
Lol, I would rather build a comp, but alienware just makes em so good =D

I'm a retard so I get good rewards if I get good grades XD

My grades used to be mediocre. So now for the first year ever in high school (I'm a Junior now) I've been getting higher than a 3.0, and nothing lower than a B. I get squat X(
#25
If I had those grades, I'd be making 5k a quarter XD

What kind of jobs do your parents have? Or did they just win the lottery?
#27
My parent's are retired, my mom has a disability so she can't work, and my dad lost his job wrongfully, so he sued the company and got...I think it was $500,000 or so...They had $700,000 before they were retired...So TECHNICALLY we are millionares lol...

Not to brag or anything >.<

Hey mage, tell them that you bestest friend in the whole world (me) needs his car fixed so he can get to work. And say you'll just cry if they can't help me. :-P

Okie dokie mage you want to know what da-best computer is right....so I'll give ya specs. Every part will be purchaseable through www.newegg.com. Lets begin...

Processor: AMD 64 FX-53 [OEM cause your gona get an after factory HS/Fan] (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...459&depa=1 apparently they dont carry OEM ones right now all well still cheaper than the 55 and same performance)

Graphics: 2x PCI-e 16x 6800 Nvida GFX in SLI (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...222&depa=1 )

Memory: 2x Corsair XMS 1gb DDR 4400 (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...551&depa=1 )

Motherboard: ASUS "A8N - SLI Deluxe" (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDes...517&depa=1 )

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Gamer (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...171&depa=0)

Speakers: Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 Speaker System (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...158&depa=0 )

Hard Drive(s): 2x Western Digital 74gb 10k RPM Raptors in RAID 0 (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdes...160&DEPA=0 )

Seconday Hard Drive(s): 2x Western Digital 250gb 7200RPM in RAID 0 (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdes...157&DEPA=1 )

Case: Lain-li PC-V2000B (Black) (link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDes...074&depa=1 )

I'm forced to deviate from Newegg scine they dont carry the rest.

Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling 510w Turbo Cool PCI Express (link: http://www.xoxide.com/pc-power-cooling-t...w-psu.html )

Heatsink/Fan: Zalman CNPS7700-Cu CPU Cooler (link: http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-7700-cu-cpu-cooler.html ) [if it were me we would be phase cooling the processor but I dont think you want to be going through that trouble]

The grand total comes out somewhere around insane and "the whole flock flew over the coockoo's nest". Something like $3,000-$5,000 in parts. If you cant build a computer you could probably pay someone....$200-$500 to put it together for you but I would stay and watch them to make sure they dont snatch up any of your pretties. But the above computer would have just about any computer/gaming nut shooting off in his pants and straight through them if they had a system like this.

On a personal note I would much rather build a nice dual Itanium system or Opteron system but thats me and I'm nucking futs like that.

Wow...That looks like it'd be crazy powerful =D

I like the jump from a small 74 gig to 250 xD

Btw, Chesh, I'll ask when my parents are in a better mood, they've been yelling at my brother xD
#34
the 74's are for games and OS while the 250's are for everything else.

Duely note that I left off optical drives. I would seriously invest in a CD-RW/DVD and a DVD-RW/DVD and if you really dont want to wear them out getting a strick CD and a strick DVD player drive is an optional thought.

BTW that setup is the setup I want minus some lighting and such which is useless to you.

Uh...What? xD

I didn't understand a word you said...

I'm a moron, remember? ^^
#36
The raptor drives, the 74gb ones, are for games and Windows. The larger 250gb drives are for everything else like pictures, movies and the like. The reason for the division is that fast seek times from the raptors will make games run just that little bit faster while with movies and pictures and music you dont need fast seek times you just needs LOTS of space.

I also neglected to get SATA raptors and IDE 250gb drives. Instead I think I linked you to IDE raptors and 250gb drives.

If you call Alienware and give them that list of stuff they will most likely hop to and build you a custom system with those exact specs including the RAID 0.

Also use Windows XP Home edition as opposed to Pro if you plan to game more than anything else beacuse Home is more geared toward that user than Pro. Pro is more the networker and programer as its a "true" multi-tasker.

Ah, I get it...

=D

Sorry for all the trouble, but...is there accually any performance differance between Home and Professional?? Because I could easily pay for pro if all it does is adds on Confusedmartass2
#38
The biggest difference between Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home comes in the networking and secturity department. With XP Pro you can pretty much lock the computer down to the point where using the start menu requires a password or privlages. XP Home will suite your needs just fine as long as you invest in Anti-Virus Software like Nortons and use Ad-Aware spyware scanner.

Dont do that it can get you banned. If you believe someone is/has been helpful then copy and paste the link into a private message to a mod/super-mod/admin and then he/she will decide whether or not the post(s) were "worthy" of reputation.

Just a little warning for you. Dont know if you keep up on how these things work and change and all that.
