Gettin really bad FPS problems...HELP
#1
Lately I've been having serious problems with the frame rate when I play. When I'm alone in a game everything seems to go fine unless I am around a really big group of monsters. The problem mainly arises when playing in 8 person games or even trying to rush. Normall my frame rate mins out at around 40 and occasionally dips to the 20's. Anyone know any of the causes for this crap.

I have defragged, disk compacted, spybotted, spyswept, dled the microsoft spyware thing, used the guides on the site, I currently run D2 in a window in 2D video mode, have virus scanned, installed all current windows updates, tried closing all other programs running while playing D2. All of these do NOT help out at all. Also I have edited the virtual memory stuff in the advanced folder of My Computer like it says to do in the support files included with the game and I don't imagine it would do any good to send Blizzard an e-mail like it says to in the support files.

In the past I have never had any problems playing D2 at all. I had some high level chars on scl before all of this started to happen and now I can't really see playing much more as a feasible thing the way my computer is acting.

I have 512MB of RAM, about 20GB of free HD space, a 2GHz processor in a 1.5 year old Gateway, like a T1 connection (college dorm room), and a for sure virus, spyware, and adware free computer. For some reason on my computer when I bring up the D2 window my task manager tells me that its using 100% of the CPU power and as soon as I minimize it the CPU usage jumps instantly to 0%. My suitemates who play with me show about 40-50% CPU usage when they have their windows open.

What in the hell is going on?Sad

I'm hoping some of the more experienced computer guys can give me any general or specific advice on what to do, if they can think of anything. I've rebooted my computer so much the last couple days it sucks.

Thanks for the help.

Diablo officially hates you now. As you can now see, I'm no expert, Sad but hmm, are you using a CD to play it? If so, try getting D2 Loader, and play without the CD. And you say it's lagging in window mode? Maybe try fullscreen.

Obviously you don't have many options now.

The servers are going to shit.

This game depends heavily upon your internet connection. I noticed that I would get max 75 fps wherever (except for CD lag at bosses) but when my connection went to hell (unknown) I lagged all over the place, lowering my frame rate to anywhere from 0-50.

Yeah thats the odd thing. I play with D2Loader and I even switched back to playing with the CD and back again. I have the fasted connection I've ever had and I never had any problems playing D2 in college last year. Frankly, I think this is bull. All my friends D2's run perfect and mine is just shitty.

It doesn't matter that my computer is cleaner and has no porn on it.

I don't think you mentioned reformatting your computer. I'd try that.

Diablo does not mean that much to me.

Not even close.

All reformatting does, is deletes everything off your Hard Drive. Not that big of a deal.

Your frame rate is determined by your video card, get a new one, or update your drivers.
