Every fighting game has a plot behind it you just have to be savy enough to go and look for it outside of the game. I think they did right adding in a plot to Soul Calibur. The adventure mode gives me something to do when I get bored of whopping people with Voldo I can go whoop up adventure mode with Voldo.

Hitachi does have a very awesome 16 hit combo but it takes time to pull that off and any decent player knows how to counter attack. Plus he is all close combat making any character with decent range hard to beat, as long as they are not one of the slower characters.
