And who ever said I base my favorite type of music by how they make their music? I'm not saying that because they arranged Lateralus better than any other CD ever written that it makes me like them. I like them because they kick ***. But from reading that it just makes me love and respect them that much more.

It's just the fact you keep bringing up the whole point about using math to justify the awesomeness of a band and that somehow that's what makes me like them. Yet it's not, I'm using it to prove the genius of the members. =\

oh,
well, i'm tired of arguing it. that's not what I meant. i think it's kind of obsurd to analyze music THAT much. if the music is good, it's good.

I have to agree with xDBD's point of "If you suck live, you ain't got shit as a band."
I've seen. met and played my guitar in front of them legendary Dimebag Darrell. The second time, he invited my friends and I to go to New York with him and the band, and we'd have free backstage passes and everything. This was 6 days before he died.
Dime was phenomenal onstage. He got drunk, had fun and played heavy ****ing metal. He screwed up notes all the time, and no one cared - because everyone was too ****ing busy having fun, listening to good music and watching the entire band go insane. I could also say this about The Haunted and Shadows Fall. Hell, even Metallica moved around alot onstage, and they always had the crowd going.
I like Tool as a band. I've got quite a library of their music on my computer, but I don't think they're gods among men. I don't even think they'd be that great live... because they don't really have charisma like that.
Your band is shit unless you know how to make the crowd go nuts. There's no two ways about it.
btw xDBD, I'm going to see GWAR at a huge hardcore festival this summer. Sounds of The Underground... it's going to be ****ing insane.

GWAR puts on one hell of a stage show. About Tool, I want to buy the CD now. I think its amazing they can put math into an album.

Well, let's look at it this way, fellas. You guys have been to 20+ shows (probably 50+) and I've been to two. Maybe I just don't have a sense of "what's good in a stage show and what's not" but **** that shit. =\
