Help me buy a new graphics card!!

I preffer ATI but i was having problems with my last one 9600pro 128mb so im not sure which one is better, but i think is ATI

If you're getting a new mobo anyway, why not get a 939 mobo and put a nice 3700+ Venice in it, those are crazy overclockable the last time i checked and are pretty cheap for the fact that they beat the top of the line Intel chip by a hair. And if you're buying Intel, remember to get the DDR2 800, as the 667 has lower performance than a regular DDR400 running on any A64. The graphics card should be the Nvidia 6800 Ultra for the main reason that it is faster by the X850 by less than 1% and costs MUCH less than the X850. And while you're at it, you might as well just get an SLI mobo and just put 2X 6600 Ultra or 2X 6800 Ultra on it as that would blow the ATi out of the water by about 100-200%

Oh, would you mind showing me the benchmarks where the newest ati X800 or X850 card for that matter out perform a 6800 or 7800?

Seriously, would someone OTHER than me READ before they speak. In all the latest benchmarks the ONLY ATi card to even make the benchmarks is the X850 plat. ed.. If someone can explain to me WHY the "more powerful by miles" ATi cards, other than the tip top of the line, are NOT in those benchmarks I would be oh so happy.

Really there IS a reason people and its VERY simple to understand. ATI CARDS SUCK! They blow, they're crap they just can NOT give the performance that a Nivida card can. Even in the mid-range video cards they suck. Nivida are cheaper, OC better and perform better. ATi has lost this round of video cards. 9800pro's, X800, X850 plat and non-plat just do not cut it.

P.S. First person to link to tomshardware gets smacked. I can not even count on my fingers and toes how many times they have posted false results.

Well Sinner, i think we the only NVidia... but anyhows.. there are so many Nvidia cards to choose one.. and IMO ATI cards are far to overated... if you wanna spend 200 bucks on a graphics adapter.. you can buy a $200 Nvidia and a $200 ATI and i know that the Nvidia will bench better than the ATI.. and if you wanna be an overclocker.... Nvidia's are much better at handling heat and more advanced cooling systems... just in IMO there are many more benefits to having an Nvidia than an ATI.

I just got a brand new computer and I was looking at the ATI Radeon X700 Pro PCI-E.
I don't have a lot of money to spend and I just wanted to know if this graphics card is any good. I play Half-Life 2 a lot. I also wanted to know if it would last for a long time and still play new games in the future because someone told me PCI-E is brand new. Thanks

PCI-e is the future. A X700 is a decent card and as long as your not looking for top of the line performance its a good choice.

Still not an ATi fan but if the X700 fits your budget go for it. I went and looked at newegg and for about $50-$70 more you could get a PCI-e 6800 and it would last you alot longer than the X700.

heh i just bought a new computer as well... went with the LD2 instead of the WD2 mobo... 80 bucks cheaper and I also went with the 6800 instead of x800XL... but in your case the X850XT PE... im not too sure about that one but from what I hear nvidia is better for shadowing but im also not sure what prices you got for your X850XT PE... I bought my 6800 for 310 shipped vs a X800XL for 250-280... in the past I have purchased from ATI and nvidia... both are equally good... just that nvidia sometimes tends to be a tad more expensive.

6800's at years end will be ~200 since the 7800GT will be out by then. At least that's what the reps at Nivida are saying will go down.

7800 Dosent really improve anything, Maybe better FPS and maybe a bit better Shadowing, Textures, etc.. I'm using DUAL 6800 GT's and I dont get ANY lag with any games out on the market right now, So pretty much the 7800 isnt really worth it right now, Unless more advanced games start using them instead of the older models.

BTW in case I'm the only who reads tech articles CrossFire from ATi is out and the votes are in.

CrossFire is too little way to late. Just not cost effective if you already have a decent system running any Nivida card(s). ATi has offically lost this round of graphics cards. The good new? The CrossFire system has a lot of promise for winning the next round if it is improved upon, aka two vid cards + control card. Hopefully ATi looked beyond control card+vid card possibilities when they desgined CrossFire.
