Installing Motherboard
#1
Ok, I put the little screw in spacers on my case, but I have little red leather-like washers. Do I put those on the spacers between the spacer and motherboard or above the motherboard between the motherboard and screw?

between mother board and screw i think

I've never used those washers. If the screw will hold the board in place, I wouldn't bother adding them (if your red small washers are anything like the ones I've gotten with all my boards, then they're weak as h*ll anyways)

As Bashfo said. Ontop of the motherboard between it and the screw.

Also, new question. How do I install an OS on a harddrive after getting the computer assembled? I've done my BIOS stuff, now just need to do the OS.

Make sure you have the BIOS set to boot to CD (I'm assuming the OS is on a CD Tongue), and stick in the CD then reboot.

ASUS P4P800 SE for Intel Pentium 4 Prescotts with HT. I highly suggest ASUS mobos now.

Not really for the enthusiast but they are very stable and user friendly. But why prescott? The D's aren't really that expensive and they're dual core..WOOT.

You're talking Celeron D, correct? As far as Prescott goes, I wasn't very tech savvy at the time and bought the thing I thought was best...

Another problem has arisen. I formatted my harddrive and it copied the XP files onto it. Then it reboots like the guide I'm reading says it's supposed to. But then it tells me to format it again and install it... What the hell do I do?

Does it say something like "Press any key to boot from CD..." then maybe a countdown or something? If so, don't hit any key. Also you need to check your BIOS and make sure your HDD is in the boot order (you might as well set it first). You can also take the CD out of the drive (but make sure you still look in the BIOS to see that it will attempt to boot from the HDD).

When I put my HD as my first priority boot device it tells me to reboot and select proper boot device or instert boot media in selected boot device and press any key.

What exactly does it say when it tells you to format it again and install it? Is it the same thing you just did? And are you sure you got XP installed right (at the end it should tell you it is rebooting in 15s etc..)?

That's exactly what it does. l0l And I called tech support, I cleared CMOS and all that and I am attempting it once more.
