Ok, I want to know how this is done if anybody could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I have a regular RCA stereo, the multi-color cord, and my television. Now I plug in the red & white into both my stereo and my television but I'm not sure what do next. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

it depends on your tv i think. you mentioned that you have the multicolored cord. i know what your talking about, but on the tv, it should have an out (for vid/sound) and an in (for the vcr etc.) make sure you connect it to the out, and it should put out the sound only. i think thats how tv surrond sound works...

Um, to record stuff? My TV has multiple input and output jacks...........
As for the TV, just match the colors up. Plug the cord into the output, and then the other end into an input on your stereo, select the source to match the input you plugged your TV into and youre done. Make sure your TV has audio out though, not all of them do.

seems your tv can handle it just fine. you seem to have it hooked up correctly. just set your stereo to aux or tv/tape whatever its set for on the back. if your tv is like my small one, it will only work for your dvd shit....my small tv has the jacks but none will work till the tv is set to video 1,2,game. if you have like dvr through a cable company they may use the jacks for it, if they do, just disconnect the red one from the tv and add it to the stereo.

you need to use the yellow and white... not the red and white.

Ok well heres the full story, I actually want to hook it up for my PS2 while watching DVDs and playing games but I'm not sure how I would go about that. So I'm still stuck. I'm not to sure on what I should set my t.v. to because I already have my stereo set to AUX and everything hooked in fine. My T.V. is a Philips Magnavox so if anyone has any particular expeerience with this television and knows whats up let me know.

does it play ur regular tv on the stereo?....it looks like to me u have a different yellow (video) in the output where u have the 2 outputs for ur stereo... now if thats ur playstation video and u see ur ps2 on ur tv that means 2 things. first that is not an output but an input and 2nd u dont hear sound because you dont have ur ps2 sound cables (red and white) cord pluged into ur tv.. but i see u have a cable cord so here is what u can do.
first look where the red white and yellow cables go in on the back of ur tv and see if it says input or output.
if it says output:
then just hook put ur stereo to ur tv like you have it.. now if u have a vcr or a sadellite receiver then hook ur ps2 to that and rune ur cable wire to ur tv.. if u have a vcr then u need to rune ur cable through ur vcr. then an extra cable from ur vcr to ur tv
if it says input:
then ur screwed and need to get a new tv.
if anything is still unclear ask me but i really need to know if thoughs cordlets on the back says output or input

Guys I'll get back to you tomarrow, my bro is sleeping so I don't want to go and screw around with it. I'm pretty sure it says output but one question. Could I have my PS2 and stereo hooked up at the same time without using a VCR? I don't have satellite or anything like that so thats not an option. The way I have it in that picture is the PS2 is hooked in at video(yellow) and the stereo is hooked in at audio(red, white). But even when any regular channel is on it still goes through the T.V. not the stereo so that isn't working either. The stereo is set to AUX, and the setting on the T.V. is set to 'Stereo' not 'Mono'. is there anything else I must change? Be back tomarrow.

first off it doesnt matter of its on stereo or mono thats just sound quality type. stereo just splits the sound to left and right and mono just compiles it so it is displayed on left and right. now u say ur sure that is an ouput so ur playstation doesnt go in the output spot, it goes into an input spot. however i didnt see another in or out on the back of ur tv. now if it was an input an d u have it set up like you do..then u will have picture to ur playstatoin but there wont be any sound because you dont have the ps2 sound hooked up (u wont even have sound of ur ps2 on ur tv). now if you have been playing ur ps2 with the set up like u have it then it is indeed an input and u cant hook it up to ur stereo. which beens in u need to unplug those cords and hook ur ps2 red and white in.
if it is an output then u need a vcr so because ur tv doesnt have multiple inputs. (just the cable and the aux)

That is exactly how it was. Just the PS2 video was hooked in, not the audio. But even without hooking up the PS2 I still have the problem. Even on a local channel the sound still didn't come through the speakers.

Well, i'm only seeing one set of colored plugs on the back of your tv. So i'm assuming you're tv doesnt support Video/Audio Out. Just Video/Audio In.
Now, I'm quite sure you can buy an adapter at Radio Shack that let's you turn your cable (the screw in one. forgot what it's called) into the colored ones (forgot their name too GOD DAMNIT). If you get what i'm saying. You can just plug the yellow one into the TV and the Audio into the stereo. You won't hear sound thru the TV speakers. They will only come thru the Stereo speakers. Unless you buy a cable splitter and run one into the TV and one into the converter. And that should solve your ps2 problem as well as i've seen converters with more than 3 sets of colored plugins.
Good luck reading this confusing post.

Okay so theres an adapter I can buy. Is there a way I can do it without buying something and say using a VCR? But I'm still confused as to why my stereo won't work even now.
