I see your point and it is quite a valid one but I have been having my friends talk to the guy and see "what i still had left" because the guy has been pretending to be me, talking to my friends asking to be given gear because i had been scammed. So they've just been playing along acting like they think it really is me... in this way i can still see what he has and has not given away/taken for himself/etc etc
I dunno. We'll see i guess.

i got tele hack but u mite have to pay me and u can get ur torch back very quickly

well... the thing I refrained from telling you guys was that i got the fort and the phoenix for free. I'm not sure what drugs this guy was taking, but yeah, he gave me those things for free, basically.

guy offered u his account and he said "what would your pw like to be?"
u gave him the pw which was the same one on ur account then BAM, jacked.
learn next time.

Bruteforcing is not just a program! It is a hacking method in where passwords are guessed using a password list until one of them is correct. There may be a program called BruteForce that does this, I am not sure. Many security measures block these methods, and I am quite sure Blizzards has as well.
It is more likely that you used your password on another site, and the password list was hacked from it, or someone knew you well enough to guess your password. Another possibility is if you have a virus keylogger infection, where someone is sent everything you type on your keyboard in an email.
You should use a strong password. Include as many of the following as you can.
Your password should be at least 8 characters long.
It should have both letters and numbers.
You should use a different password everywhere you go.
Never write your password down anywhere.
Try to use both capital and lowercase letters.
Try not to use a word inside of a dictronary. If it was bruteforced (from another site, it would not be from Diablo II but a site you used the same password as D2 on it), the password lists often utillize an entire dictonary worth of words.
Never tell anyone your password.
Of course, these are all just guidelines, my password for Diablo II is 6 letters, capital and lowercase mix, followed by 7 numbers. I only use the pass for Diablo II, and I will probably never get my password hacked.

it's fine, at least your post was constructive
here's what happened:
I didn't realize I was giving my info away. It was one of those scams where they ask to see "your rank" by typing
/dnd rank (account name) (password)
What I didn't know was that actually set my account to an away message, so he whispered me and it auto-replied with the info he wanted. Foolish, I know...
but yeah. the password i was using for D2 was just random letters and a few numbers here and there. i had it saved in my cell phone so i wouldn't forget it. D2 was the only thing i was using it for.

probably got viruses on his comp. happened to me once and i brought my comp in to compusa and i had 250+ viruses.
new virus software + ad-aware prog solved my prob.
well he bettter do soemthing then asking people because all hes doin is asking and not checking his comp.
