Wii have a chance of stealing the market?
#41
On Friday I walked into EB games at the mall and looked at the Wii cases they had on display and exclaimed, "This is why Nintendo sucks!" You have no idea how true that was and how many people looked at me like I was crazy. No it will not steal the market because it is marketed to 10 year olds.

It's marketed to gamers. A different style of arcade-gameplay. I personally can't wait to try the swordfighting in Zelda with the remote... and the game I REALLY can't wait for is Super Smash Brothers : Brawl.

It's going to steal the market because of the price. 250$ for a next-gen system? When the competition is 700 dollars? Sign me up.

Wii is liit.

You do realize this is a brilliant strategy on Nintendo's behalf, correct? From what I saw of the other next-gen console launch titles, I saw neither of the other 2 systems had a launch title with a kid-based game. Thus the age range of people who will play the system is expanded (assuming the parents buy age-appropriate games for younger kids) and this gets Nintendo money. It appears that several of their launch titles include games also like Disney/Pixar's Cars, and other games that are generally geared towards younger children.

However, there are launch titles for all ages, as games like The Legend of Zelda, Red Steel, and Metroid Prime 3 will appear towards an older and more mature crowd. They do not make games to appeal simply to just you, and you alone. They reach out to gain a larger and greater number of gamers and non-gamers alike, and the style of gameplay (Wii-mote; most revolutionary controller of all time) enables for a more hands-on experience and enjoyable time.

And do not throw aside games such as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz or Warioware, which may seem childish. SMB's mini-games are extremely addictive (I have the first game on GC and they are quite impressive themselves), and Warioware will show the limits of motion senser technology.

The Nintendo Wii will bring about a revolution in the amount of people who play video games, and don't be surprised if you see more casual gamers (and all gamers alike) pop up all over the world, of ALL ages.

I hope you do not give Wii a negative connotation simply due to Nintendo's previous products; Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 are no more of next-gen consoles then the Nintendo Wii (and the other way around). All of them deserve a fair and unbiased viewpoint =)

lol SMB is addictive, i played it over a friend's house. and idk i think the wii might steal the market because of the price. like you said, it's geared toward all ages but especially the younger crowd. the parents will see the price of all the consoles and immediantly go for the wii because its like $450 cheaper than the ps3. if they can make a nex-gen console like wii for $250 they can't make ps3 a little cheaper lol. i personally don't play video games much anymore(nights consist of: track, girlfriend, school, cooking my own food, working out etc) but i have to say the ps3 would intrest me the most out of the three.

i think that the wii will steal the market over the PS3 mainly b/c they manufactured more than sony. most of the 400,000 PS3's are being resold over ebay right now. and sony only gets the intial profit of 600$. the wii on the other hand, with more availabilty will earn nintendo way more money b/c its more available. on another note, do you think that there will be a second wave of PS3's all being released at once?

People are raving over the ps3 though. I couldnt bring myself to spend 600 bucks on something that will be 300 in 6 months. Its just crazy.

Yeah wheres GC? Oh yeah, thats right it didn't sell because all the games are for 6 year olds.

Shows how much you know, why don't you go try to pick up a Blu-ray DVD player. They are about a grand. I doubt it will be 300 anytime soon. That was just a statement of ignorance.

metal, read jedi's post again till you comphrend it. the entire thing. he addressed your concern already.

anyone who spends $700 on a system when there is a comparable product for $250 is either a ****ing moron or has too much money. and should give said extra money to me.

dude the GC failed due to the lack of third party games, and the small size of the cd's

Man have you been in a cave the last 10 years metalhead. Every system that has come out. And I mean every one has started at like double what they start out at. Its just simple supply and demand. Right now everyone wants to be the first to have one and/ or want to get one for christmas. After this first initial blitz it will go way down. If not thats the stupidest marketing move sony will have made in the history of the company. I mean come on who will pay 600 dollars for a stupid game console.

so that kinda answers your question as to who would pay 600 for a game system. heck, remember when DVD players first came out? those were thousands, not hundreds, and people still went crazy over them

The wii has already sold twice as more as the ps3, and because the ps3 isn't doing very well, and because they sell it underpriced (they're trying making that up with games they're selling) I don't think they are going to last very long.

I don't know if the Wii is going to take this generation but it will easily destroy the Playstation3 in sales. I don't know if it can bury the 360 but it is to soon to tell right now.

the only chances the wii have of winning is because some-most xbox 360 owners would buy a 360 too, and instead of playing the ps3 they would rather have the wii because of the price. otherwise its the 360, they have too many good games.
