Goodness! someone please help me with Firefox!
#1
Hmm, well heres the deal every once in awahile although it doesn't seem to happen very often but when it does its a real pain in the ass because half the time I need to either pull the plug or wait like five minutes before the task manager pops up so I can close Firefox. Sometimes Firefox uses up 200k+ memory and sucks up 99% of my CPU and I have no idea why. Heres what it looks like in task manager. If anyone could help me I would definitely appreciate it.[Image: dfsdfdser6.png]

Does this occur when you launch a plugin of some kind? Windows media player, flash, java?

Ahh...mm sometimes when I watch video clips online for a little while or leave Firefox on for an extended period of time (three or more hours) it does it but like I said its doesn't happen very often. I really dont know what you mean by plugins, I do have Flash and Java installed on my computer but I never load them up myself. WMP doesn't seem to have an effect on Firefox although I have it running all the time when I'm on my computer so I can listen to music.

Mathalamus I would use IE instead but Firefox blows IE away.

Ok when was the last time you did a disc clean/defrag? Have you run spyware? Or checked for viruses? Mine gets like that as well...but it is almost always something running in the background.I then run spyware/virus checks and reboot...then defrag/clean hard drive. I am computer challenged...but this is what I do.

I never have problems like that. The only time Firefox ever freezes is when I have too many downloads in the history. Then all you have to do is select clean up and it is good as new!

I run a full virus scan and defrag/clean hard drve every two weeks and my computer shows free of all malware/viruses.

That doesn't exactly mean anything though. What Virus scan software are you using?

The average persons firefox uses 55MB-100MB (my best guess) depending on the amount of memory avaliable. The one bad thing about FF is it is a memeory whore, but, that is another reason that it has kick ass speed compared to alternatives. Mine takes about 88MB, but I have extensions and everything right now that could be adding to that.

I asked youif you had noticed a pattern of when it does this, like when you launched a Java thing on the internet, streamed a movie with WMP, or used flash player because on my old computer my Firefox never properly closed Java for some reason, and Java caused extreme memory for me.

Also:

Please screenshot your Tools>AddOns. (Reply if you need help putting that online) OR just list what addons you have.

Please screenshot your Help>About Mozilla Firefox (Reply if you need help putting that online) OR just give me your full version info seen there.

Please don't give up on Firefox because of one pesky memory leak, if we have to we can go into the about:config settings and force it to use less memory, but I want to see if we can solve the problem first = )

It may just be the fact that FF just likes its memory, but that much seems high to me.

firefox has never lagged up on me nor used that much memory except when i leave it on for like hours, doing nothing. and id say that the mem usage for firefox is a tiny bit higher than 60 mb for base. i think that it just depends on which websites you go onto. im currently using around 100 mbs, but thats with 4 tabs going

I been having similar problems since the new FF 2.0 came out a while ago. I think the new version came out with quite a few bugs?

Hmm, sometimes when I close uTorrent or MSN messenger it causes a memory leak I dont really notice much of a pattern besides that. I dont really know how to find the tools/addons. I cant find About Mozilla Firefox either. Please dont mind me I am computer illiterate to no end, so please explain.
