Laptop Feature?
#1
I have a new Gateway Laptop okay. One night I left the house and forgot to turn of my laptop. I came back and saw that it was shut off. I thought nothing of it, like maybe I did shut it off and I don't remember, but i pushed the power button and noticed that under my acct name it said 2 Programs Running

Here's the question.
Is there some kind of feature where after a certain amount of time, your laptop will turn off to prevent from over heating but still be logged in?
Will it be okay for me to leave my computer on overnight now without worrying of it overheating?

Is this normal for laptops?

Thanks guys.

^^ uhhhh.. ban him?

anyhow, to answer your question, yes, there is that program. windows has it built into the operating system. its called hibernation. after a certain amount of time, it will cause the computer to do what it did. the settings for this feature are different under each power settings. here is how you can change the settings if you want. right-click on your desktop screen (not on an icon), click on properties, then click on the tab that says screen saver, then click on power. in there you can change the way your computer saves power (by turning off, hibernating, etc). that will prevent it from overheating and save battery, if you are not plugged in. however, dont worry about it overheating too much. nowadays laptops should have better designs to get around that, but it is a good idea to shut it down when not in use. laptops dont have as good of cooling as desktops. and yes, it is normal of laptops to hibernate like that

also, if your going to be leaving your laptop on for long periods i recommend not laying it flat on a desk. Try to get some airflow.
You said so much without ever parting your lips.
