if you just want to learn just for the hell of it i doubt you'll get far. you have to want to learn.. genuinely. can't just be like 'oh i should play guitar now.' not judging you or your position at all, just saying.. if you think it may be a phase, it can be an expensive one. it would suck to let a 300$ rig rot away in your closet.
its not really easy but it can be lots of fun. it requires patience and it does require a lot of work-- have fun though. if at any time it isn't fun give it up. thats been my outlook and i really haven't ever been able to let it go lol

Thanks and it's not like I'm gonna play in a band or anything but I think I'd still like to learn (I've spent more on something that sits in my closet :\\ i.e. powerisers= $450...sad)

I play bass but what xDBD said about it not being fun is so true... If my bass pisses me off I have to drop it for the day, last night I was playing and my whole hand went dead it hurt like hell. I think I hit a nerve in my middle finger... It sucked.
