Ok, this was posted about in the "Things That Make You Crabby" thread, and I wouldn't mind seeing a discussion on it to see what theories are developed. That being said, could someone/something "fall off the face of the Earth", or would they/it have to be projected upward at an alarming rate of speed?
Q & C please.

A. It is a familiar figure of speech dating back to the time period that believed the Earth was flat.
B. You posted in the wrong forumrolleyes:...
To leave the Earth Physically, the speed must be reached allowing you to escape the gravity of the planet(obviously)
Are you just bored to pose such an obvious, and strangely comical , question to the forum at large? Or did you ,somewhere,in that frontal lobe of yours, actually want anything OTHER than sarcasm?

A person's relativity of up and down is different. Everybody's "Up" is pointing at different directions through the earth. Therefore you cannot fall upwards, you must fall downwards, which is impossible to fall down the earth. If you were looking from a satellite perspective. A person must be projected at 8 Km/s away from earth just to be in orbit. Thats how you fall off the face of the earth.

I made the thread based on this post:

Sure, why not.

What if, theoreticly, you are on the "bottem" of the planet?
And how can you fall off a surface you aren't even on to begin with?

If your on the bottom of a planet, you are still on it. Gravity will pull you downwards. To fall off you must fight the gravitational pull until you can infinitely perpetuate yourself around it. If thats how you would like to call fall "Off" the planet.
So you must accidentally slip on a banana and be projected at least 8 Km/s opposite of the gravitational pull to at the very least be in orbit. Which I classify as off the face of the earth.

If you were on the bottom, and gravity were pulling downwards, you would have no stability and would seemingly just float away. So is gravity acctually pushing upwards at the same time it is pushing downwards? Or is it pushing IN, from whatever location, towards the core of the Earth? Or is it even being pushed, could it be being pulled?
I don't know what the **** happed to this post, I sort of ranted on but oh well. -shrug-

Lol. Do you understand the concept.
Its downward towards earth. Would you agree that gravity always pulls you downwards? Yes it always pulls you downwards.
If your on the bottom of the earth, your still being pulled "downwards" but TOWARDS earth, theres no such thing as gravity pulling you upwards, thats why you don't "Float away". Gravity is a giant mass bending time or space.
Come on now. Columbus days, we are like moving backwards.

Easy, while standing on Earth, fall into a crater that has a blackhole\teleporter at the bottom, in which you'd get transported somewhere else.
Or it depends on what you call the Earth. If you call "earth" Earth, then falling into the water means you fell of the face of the Earth.

Oddly enough, you are starting to sound like Math. eek:
And Kaz, gravity doesn't always pull downwards. It always pulls In, towards the Earth's core.

I said the only possible things for "falling" off the Earth. Besides, I think only the first part was him. The second was no where near him.

Oh ohkay. So theres someplace on earth where you stand, gravity won't be pulling you downwards, but in. Concept: Downards = In.
On Earth, Gravity always pulls us "Down" always. If you like to call it "In" then call it "In". Theres no difference. If it pulls "In" then it is automatically downwards. You can't walk on your hands and say, see its pulling me up now. blank:

"in" and "down" aren't the same thing. If gravity pulled you downward, you could technicly be at the south pole, get launched out a cannon and just fly through the atmosphere......or whatever.
Edit: Wait, did you just infract me for the exact same thing you did in the post right after this one? Priceless. "Only you would create such a retarded thread and then defend your statements with nonsense" I take that as a direct insult to me, another member, and think you should give yourself and infraction now.

Only you would create such a retarded thread and then defend your statements with nonsense...good job there!!! Now go demonstrate to us "Falling off the face of the earth" Personally I would like pics of this, complete with graphs. Chart your trajectory and relative speed as you hurtle from the clutches of this planets gravity and ******d into the far reaches of the atmosphere.
Layer the chart to depict the atmosphere and gaseous content until space is acheived.Make it attractive, and easy to read. Thanks in advance.

Hey look, it's the clown that doesn't get that this whole thread is satiricly based on one of the many dumbass posts they made.
Any more bright comments Spalding, or didn't you bother to even read the first post?

I like my misspelling just fine, blow me very much.
Yes they are. Stand anywhere on earth. Gravity will be pulling you down, all the time no matter where, down. If you fall of a cliff in the US you will fall down, if you fall of a cliff in China, you also fall down.
Gravity makes it so no matter where you are, its always feels like its in the same direction. Down. When no gravity is present, then there is no real "Down" or "Up. But the thing is, we are on earth where gravity is present.
So let me do it again. When a person or a projectile is shot off earth at 8 Km/s we will be in orbit. So if we slip off a banana peel and fly at more than:
~8 Km/s away from earth or...
~7 Miles/s away from earth or...
~25,000 Miles/hr away from earth.
We will of fallen off the face of the earth.
Why?
If we do not approach these speeds, we will fall back on to earth. If those speeds are met, then we will not fall back to earth. If you don't fall back in earth, then you must of fallen off the face of the earth.
Video coming soon.
Edit: Heres the video: *Removed*
I stuttered a bit but hey i'm not an actor. Sorry about my voice.=D
Oh gawd I rewatched it lol. I don't make much sense in the end hahah. Remaking...*Shakes Head*

"In" and "Down" are the same thing when we are on this subject.
Now, if he said gravity pulled us South, which depending on your perception, could be called down to, you could make that argument.
In = area (Going In = Direction)
Down = Perceptive Direction
South = True Direction

Hahahahaha. Funny video Kaz. I lawled. -claps-
Ok, I'm going to do more research and get back. Even if this did start as a pointless debate, it could turn into something fun/humorous, like with the video. Also, in a debate which takes two people, someone gernerally takes the opposition to an idea, even knowing/believing differantly then the point they are trying to prove. That being said, I know, even more so by your cool video, that down and in are the same thing, but I'm still going to try to question it and make you think more about it from a differant angle because that is the beauty of debating.
And Blue, that is basicly what he already said.......
