D2 Error - This is killing me!

I bought Diablo 2 the other day, installed the game along with the expansion, updated it to 1.11b, and opened the game. The little cutscenes in the beginning play then the splash screen pops up. I click to clear the flash screen to go to the main page and an error pops up. The error reads...

I've tried running diablo 2 in XP compatability mode, in different resolutions, as an administrator, in 256 colors, i tried using that D2 loader, reinstalling it several times. I caontacted blizzard support and they said it was a problem with windows. I am using Vista so this is probably part of the problem, but PLENTY of people using Vista are able to run diablo 2 perfectly fine. Please help me with this problem, thanks a TON to anyone who attempts to help or gives a solution!

Vista is the problem altogether, that dosnt help u tho im sure. But i ran vista and d2 fine, until my motherboard went poof. My suggestion is downgrading to XP. Now u did say u were running with XP compad. and as administrator right? My d2 on vista didnt work until i did that also..

Yeah, I am running as an administrator. I've looked at at LEAST 20 posts about this problem. It seems like it might be a problem with my video card if I were to take a guess. I have a GeForce 8600GT and it might not work well with Diablo 2. Anyone know of a fix for this card or any other suggestions to the internal error at all? Once again, thanks will be MUCH appreciated.

Ok, u know that video test u have to run when u install? when its finished what option are u selecting? There should be a couple differant options like directdraw and such. Let me know.
