Can't Install Diablo 2

I cant install my Diablo 2.Right when it asks to insert the play disk during the installation process it starts for like one minute then I get this error,

"Setup cannot read a required data file.Your Diablo2 may not be in the CDROM drive.Please ensure the Diablo2 disc is in the CDROM drive then click retry.To cancel the installation pess,cancel.

Maybe u already have d2char.mpq in the directory u want to install it? I had that problem once

Install d2 in a clean folder...

delete the d2 folder in ur program files, then try?

How can I already have it?I have never played the game before.

Tried a new directory,didnt work either.

Yes, I have the same problem and know EXACTLY what you're talking about. It's cyclic redundancy. People say that it happens because there is a scratch on a very neccessary part of the cd. Ironically it's always on the "d2char.mpq" file. All the other files on my cd work. FYI to you others, that error wouldnt be created by the file already being in there. It overwrites the previous file...

If I could get a d2char.mpq, then I could hopefully make a new cd with a good d2char.mpq file in it... but how the heck do I get it is the question...
