You also seem the be extremely full of yourself. Rap was originally inspired by techno and industrial forms of rock. The initial ideals behind rap, a sort of preaching about the wrongs in their lives (this is modern rap anyway), came from the blues and rock (mostly metal/punk as far as rock goes). Most of the things they talk about in modern rap though is not real life, it's a dramatization and praise of drugs, gangster rap at least. They would complain and exagerate anything bad they've seen and rap about it. Rap can be poetry in my opinion, but only if that person is talking about the truth and not trying to make a quick buck. If you claim rock is just "hitting strings" and takes no talent then you are ignorant and don't belong anywhere near the world of music. Being a music major my head hurts just listening to some of these arguments.

I think that a music thread should not be in a flame category. That just ruins music of all kinds completely. I also think that some of you are trying to sound more intelligent than you are. The only people who have made any intelligent statements is probably just SpoonMan999. I feel I must congradulate you for it. I personally prefer rock of all kinds over rap of any kind. Rap just doesnt send me to a happy place. Though having a mom with a doctorate in music I understand where everyone comes from with all types of music and I respect their opinions.
However, as I said I honestly think it's assanine to start a rap or rock thread in a flame section. I think that doing this was utterly and simply retarded. I feel I have to emphasize this. Most of these posts barely involve music; it's just people arguing, which granted this is the flame section.

Oh btw, rock is not dead. Considering rock groups are still selling millions of albums it hasn't died it just evolved. As all music does it's just becoming something new all over again, there are so many different genres of rock I don't think it will ever truly die. The old stuff is good, a lot of it any way, and some of the new stuff is good you just have to give it a chance.

Btw anyone seen the new Metallica movie? Some Kind of Monster, I really want to see but I'd have to drive to Hollywood to see it.
