They are only doing that to make sure the ladder only items don't get duped.

Dude once i heard this news and looked at the site i was really excited and got all worked up because i really want to make a new charracter on ladder and anyways...im just ****ing mad at blizzard for not telling us when it actually is and what it is im from USEast and the rumors there say that its only going to be new ladder seaon only new items no characters acts or anything of that such, but i still would just like to know these ****ing things because its really ****ing bothering me and i really would like to know when its going to happen because i want to get a "head start" and try to make the rankings

The fact is, new things will be happening to d2. Ladder is probably going to reset in August, just like predicted [I have my sources]. Now as for new items, thats a maybe. New act? Doubt it. New character? Never. But you never know. New things will be happening to non-ladder. Just wait and see...

ive heard from insiders (i.e. my bro's friend who works @ teh tech support ceter of blizz) that it will probly reset near the beginning of October (i.e. a yr after tehy released the patch)...
so far, forums around the world are flooded w/ these three gestimates
A) tonight at midnight (killed)
B) July 1st
C) Monday @ midnight.

Okay well the way it looks from what I have read...ladder chars are not being moved to non-ladder as nubil already said....just to keep ladder gear from "generating" on the non ladder games. I think all they are going to do is put all the ladder chars in there own little world, probably with no new gear, no new items, no new nothing. The rules will stay the same. They might make things a little easier to drop which would be a change for some items. As for non-ladder I don't think they will go through the trouble of changing anything. So my theory is this: Ladder chars get moved to 1.10+. Ladder system gets reseted (time to start over). Non-ladder stays the same.
