Mick thomson isnt distorted at all.
Paul only uses distortion in 4 songs.
This isn't flame wars, so I won't flame you TOO godawful bad. Every Slipknot song i've ever heard is distorted. Every vidoe i've ever seen was distorted. In fact, look at the video for "Duality." I know for a fact Mick is distorted. I watched him execute several Pinch Harmonics. Try pulling that off on a clean toned electric guitar. What do you get? Nearly nothing. Add a *** load of Marshall Gain cranked to 11, what do you get? A supersonic pitch straight from you know where.
Regardless of what kind of tone you play, you can't measure talent by it. Look at per-se someone like.. oh, the living god Zakk Wylde. Everything he does is cranked to 11 and boosted with a Boss SD-1(recently his Signature Wylde Overdrive, ty ty MXR), but you can't tell me his talent is hidden behind distortion. Look at the 'Boozed, Broozed, and Broken-Boned: Live from Harpos at Detroit.' It has two acoustic songs. He totally RIPS through every one of them at lazer speed, missing how many notes? You count, but so far i've found a grand total of none. I'd love to watch Jim Root or Mick Thompson(SP?) play half the crap Zakk or Alexi does at a clean tone and count all the notes they miss. They'd be condemned four seconds into starting.
Let's hear your response, i've been a head-banging lunatic sinse I was born(raised into it by a head-banger of a dad), and brother, in my humble opinion, Slipknot is trash. When you screw up a cd and make 99% of your original fanbase say you've gone soft(especially with Rick Ruben[who's produced damn near every Slayer album, that should tell ya something] on production), you've pretty horrible, IMO.
GOGO DEBATE!~~
CoB>Slipknot.

Ive been playing guitar and bass since I could pick one up so dont tell me about distortion.
The fact is Mick has been playing for almost 30 years. So I think he knows how to do that stuff without distortion.

Jesus Christ son(this is NOTHING personal.. I just love talking this stuff), i'm not ignorant to guitar playing either. I've been playing for 12 years(quite a big gap considering i'm only 18), and I know how to play harmonics quite well. Zakk Wylde's been my hero sinse I can remember, so of course I would. If you're telling me Duality isn't distorted, brother i'm here to tell you you're a crack addicted person. If you're telling me you can make harmonics squeal like they do in Duality on a clean tone, you're definintely stoned. If you're telling me Mick Thompson only plays clean, you're ignorant. Look at his rig, it has enough gain to power a nuclear warhead! The ONLY way Mick's tone in the songs i've heard could be clean would be if his fellow guitarists all used a fleet of Distortion pedals/tones, and he just added one dub of clean. Only possible way. I'm here to tell you(sorry for being redudnant or w/e) that harmonics on a clean tone just don't sound that squeaky. Try it for yourself. Pinch Harmonics are the one we're talking about. At the most, you get a static-squeak that fades before it gets started good. Distorted, it's a loud, hi-pitched scream. Duality is definitely distorted. I'm not a Slipknot fan. As I stated before, when you totally **** an album produced by Rick Ruben(and make your most hardcore fans stop listening to you for being too soft), I won't pay you the time of day. That's exactly what Slipknot has done.

Dude I know he uses distortion but not in every song. Did you hear Vermillion 1 and 2 or opium of the people or prelude?

Negative.. here's why.
When I heard Wait and Bleed in like what.. 1999? All my buddies were flipping out, you know.. "OMG THIS BAND IS SO HARDCORE YOU BEING A METALHEAD YOU'LL EAT IT UP!!" I took a listen. My exact thoughts to this exact day were "this is so horribly mediocre it's pathetic." Just my opinions. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. Far from the Cream of the Crop, IMHO.
When I heard Iowa[a friend let me listen to two or three songs], I thought it had potential but came up short. I've only heard two songs off of their new album. One of my good friends(we have similar tastes) said that Rick Ruben produced it. He said that it was so horribly not Slipknot(I never liked them to begin with, so to stray from the sound you had just made me horrid to their existance) and that it wasn't worth my time of day. So i've only heard the two singles they've released. Duality had a groove, but the other song was horrible(all in my opinion).
In conclusion, no, I have not heard anything clean Mick plays. All I know is he plays distortion. I also know from what I've heard Alexi Laiho will make him seem like the smallest child in terms of style, personality, tone, and chops(guitar playing, of course).
It's all in good fun. Atleast you don't praise Backstreet Boys. > I think we've worn this.
Plus you respond with two or three sentenses. Beef it up, son!

K not to be rude but Slipknot sings about their life. Which is prolly why I like them and why Allisurd called me a poser.
My life was a lot like Coreys. But anyways Wait and Bleed was about his dream about comitting suicide.

Don't take me as being rude. I speak my mind in a crude fashion. It's my personality. I'd call you fag IRL before i'd call you by your real name. Not out of hatred or anything, it's just my nature to be a sarcastic butthole.
On my part(in all seriousness), if you've considered taking your life as Corey has, you need a reality check, bubba. I've been through hard times alot in my life, but I'd never kill myself over it. To counter, i'm sure i've had just a rough life as you.

Ok instead of a contest over who's life sucks more, as this seems to be heading towards, realize that people interpret their lives in different ways. Mick is a good guitarist, not the best but still good, even though yeah he plays power chords but oh well it works. Yeah the new album is more Stone Sour than it is Slipknot. Jim is also good, and they do use the occasional distortion but not too often, but whether or not you like his style is a question of preference. Slipknot has given metal a new face and a new star IMO by taking heavier music and a larger show and even tapping into the main stream crowd. I think that Corey and the rest are doing a pretty good job, even though I was disapointed a bit by the last album, and with Joey backing them up they'll always have those great solos to show off at least. Even if you don't like Slipknot you have to give credit where it's due and Joey is probably the most talented in the group, Murder Dolls escapades discluded.

I got ya there.. I give Slipknot that credit, Joey is definitely the best drummer in metal, hands down.
And to answer that other guy's question..
My parents have split four times and i've moved 6 times in my life. I've nearly killed one of my moms boyfriends and i've had to live with the fact my dad's suicidal due to the fact I can't stand either of them. I've been to the point of killing multiple people, but luckilly I haven't. During my Sophomore year of highschool, I had to withdraw from a Vikodin addiction, and i've struggled with being an alcoholic. I've played with nose candy and have lived three years where all I thought about was the next Hydrocodone and the next hit of acid. Yeah, i've been there.

Old Slipknot is to me much better than the Subliminal verses. They're trying to reach out to more wider fan base and loosing they're style. I hate the new album, Duality is good, but to me. That's it. Crap crap crap. Bodom I actually think is some what doing the same thing. I like the power in their music much more than Slipknot, but the newest album isn't as good as their previous ones. If you listen to something from Hatebreeder then say, the song "Are you dead yet?". There is such a difference. I think Bodom is better, overall. But the old Slipknot, are pretty good aswell.

Lol Slipknot sucks. They suck live also. I've seen them twice and I've always hated them just went to their shows for free. Not only that Corey Taylor lost his voice half way through the set. Slipknot sucks hands down.

Omg.... dude you apparently arent a musician or you just have no clue what your talking about... Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall... Chris Adler from Lamb of God... The guy from Mastodon.... The list goes on of who is way, and I mean like leagues, better.
Omg more edit...

Dude Slipknot plays in like B tuning... They have to be distorted because if they weren't you'd hear their strings flopping around like a fish on land.
